Description: Kaya wakes up in the infirmary, Chupsin attending her. and is assisted by one of his journeymen.

Date: month 5, day 28 of Turn 6

Kaya's eyes opened. The room that greeted her was unfamiliar and,
frankly, not very welcoming. Her eyes darted around, her heart
pounding a bit as she took in the unusual surroundings. Then she
relaxed and closed them again.

The momentary confusion upon her awakening was replaced by the memories
that proceeded her arrival. She was in the infirmary. That's right. A
hand reached up to rub at her eyes. Wirnan wasn't there, but maybe
that was a good thing. They had been arguing, she and Wirnan. Arguing
about _him_. Not that it mattered. He was dead and she was stuck with a
man who hated her. It was in the middle of that fight that the pain had
hit. It was sudden. It was brief. But then it returned. Came back
again. The wait between pain and relief shortened and soon all she
could remember was pain - and blood. There was a vague recollection of
Wirnan leaving. Had he looked concerned? The memories were fuzzy. She
couldn't remember much else beyond some voices. Most of what she
remembered was pain - and lots of red. And then darkness.

Voices had buzzed in her head once or twice after that, but it was the
first time she had been fully awake, fully _aware_ and now that she
was? She didn't want to be.

He had let her rest since she needed it. They'd managed to get some
fluids into her, but Chupsin knew she still needed to drink. He waited
for her to wake, telling a nurse to let him know when she woke. Walking
up, he saw her eyes open. Speaking softly in case her head still hurt,
he approached the side of the bed. "Kaya, you're safe. There was a
problem, but you're stable now. Do you remember anything?"

"A little." There was a short pause before the young woman added just
barely loud enough to hear. "Enough." Enough to know that she just
wanted to go back to sleep and stay that way for a good long while.

He understood what she meant and despite his turns doing this and so
many times having to share the bad news it never got any easier. He
would never tell anyone that though. "You will need your rest, but
before that I need you to drink some fluids. The nurse here will help
you." He pointed to the woman standing behind him. "Are you in any
pain?" He didn't want to give her fellis since she hadn't eaten
anything, but he could infuse some willowbark into her tea.

"Yes." She was. Kaya felt the physical pain, but what annoyed her,
surprised her, and hurt her the most wasn't what she could feel
physically. It was something else. Something deeper. Something that
medicine wouldn't be able to touch.

Once the tea was prepared, they carefully handed it to her. "It's hot so
blow." He nodded to the nurse, thinking it might be good for her to be
around so if Kaya wanted to talk about it, she'd have a female to reach
out to. He wasn't aware of her having any friends within the Hold to
serve the role. "If the pain continues, we can try and give you some
broth and then fellis. Just let the nurse know."

The woman would be on duty to assist Kaya with any needs she might
have for quite some time. "Things like these can be hard. It's not the
end of the world though." He didn't want to tell her that it could mean
it would be harder for her to conceive in future. Chupsin hadn't been
able to look to see how much damage had been done.

"I just want to rest." Kaya didn't want to talk. She knew Chupsin was
trying to comfort her and she was grateful for it, but right then, she
didn't want to talk and didn't want to be talked to.

"Aye get some rest then," he said softly before disappearing. The woman
stayed nearby and Tourniquet was surreptitiously perched in the rafters
looking down, watching Kaya in case.
