Description: Layris tries his luck on Jaylene
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 4, day 4 of Turn 6
There was nothing like a cool beer after a hard day assisting on
drills and otherwise trying to make K'sedel's wing the best it could
be. It was a well earned swallow..or three...that went down Jaylene's
throat. Smiling at her tablemate, she propped her feet up and wiped
the sweat off her brow. She'd take a bath later, now she just needed
to stop and enjoy her drink.
"Well, that wasn't too terribly bad, was it?" she asked Uetia.
"Not terribly well either," she pointed out and frowned. "What an
illogical expression: terribly and well."
Jaylene looked at her friend and rolled her eyes. "It's a bit of a
double negative, isn't it?" She took another well deserved swallow of
her pint. "Well, drink up and let's go grab a bottle of white and
enjoy a nice long soak in my bathing pool. Sound like a plan?"
"Sounds fine with me," Uetia agreed.
Layris was going past them. He had had a bit of a crush on Jaylene for
long time now, so he had been passing them on very slow pace. "Can I
join you too?" he asked hopefully. He had been eavesdropping.
"In the baths or at our table?" Jaylene asked, raising an eyebrow.
Wasn't he one of Jayonne's music students?
"Anything goes with you, ladies," Layris said and spread his arms.
Uetia sniggered at the dirty-minded douple meaning.
"Oh, really?" Jaylene leveled her glance at the boy.
Layris nodded and did his best to look innocent. Which he certainly wasn't.
Jaylene snorted. "Jayonne can get away with that look because
he_is_rather innocent. But you, my dear boy..." She raised an
eyebrow as she spoke.
"Aww," Layris said with a disappointed look on his face.
"Come have a seat at least. You're giving my poor tired neck a
chick, looking up at you like that." Layris could be fun, at least.
"How are your dads?"
"They are fine," Layris replied and slipped into a seat.
"Dads, I never get used to that. Things you can run into only in
weyr." Uetia said.
Jaylene nodded. "As it should be. Why does some fat Lord who never
does an honest day of work get to say how others get to
live, after all?"
"Exactly," Layris agreed. "My birth mother run away from her home,
when she got pregnant without being married. Here, no one would care
is she had mate or not."
"How it should be." Jaylene nodded once more. She knew a bit about
the boy's history and her face took on a pensive air.
Layris just shrugged it off. It didn't bother him at all. Yes, his
mother had abandoned him, but he did have loving fosterparents. What
more could child need?
Jaylene stared down into her empty glass and eyed Uetia. "Ready for
that bath now?"
"Sure," the younger greenrider replied.
"I could wash your back," Layris suggested.
"I would have thought you'd offer an entirely opposite part," Jaylene
retorted, grinning wickely.
"Oh, I had whole another plan for those parts," Layris replied.
"You're so bad." Jaylene mock shook her head. "Impress a blue and
we'll see about that." Reanth only ever seemed to prefer blues.
"Blue is certainly possible, as well as brown," Layris responded.
"Yeah, you like the boys as well?"
"Not enough to seek their company in to my bed, but if I found myself
with one..." he shrugged indifferently.
"Speaking like a true weyrbrat," Uetia snorted.
Jaylene just rolled her eyes. "Get you boys drunk enough, you'll
sleep with anything." To Uetia, she added, "J'zen and I had a bet
going on if Jayonne would let your brother sleep with him, but so far
we're losing all our marks."
"Don't tell that to G'el or Jayonne won't have a moment's of peace,"
Uetia replied.
"It'd serve him right."
"Maybe," Uetia didn't sound so sure. She liked Jayonne, and her
brother could be bit too much.
Jaylene harrumphed. "Ready for that bath then?"
Since the ladies was ignoring him, Layris just shrugged his shoulders
and moved on.
