"Okay, you're going to have to bear with me." Meledei cautioned the
bronzerider with an amused smile on her face. "I'm still limping, but
the healers say exercise is good and will help so if you don't mind, I
don't mind giving these lessons a try."
He smiled down at her. "That isn't a problem, I'm sure it will help
you get back in shape." He held out a hand to her.
"And I badly need help. I feel like I've gone to mush." Meledei
limped forward and took the hand. "Anyway to disguise my lopsided
walking?" She asked, her eyes twinkling with amusement at herself.
He chuckled. "If I have to I'll carry you around the floor." He was
there just to make sure she was ready to dance at her own hatching.
Elleth was looking lovely these days or so Mnoranth kept telling him
so he was fairly certain the gold would be taking her first flight
sometime soon.
"Don't worry you'll be fine. Just lean on me if you have to. We'll
start with something easy." He nodded to the apprentice harper who
began to play a simple song. "Ready?"
"Lean on you? I'll do no such thing!" Meledei playfully scoffed. She
needed this - it would help get her better physically if nothing else.
"I'm ready! Lead on!"
**Thats my girl** he wouldn't dare say that to her face. He pulled her
into his arms and began to step slowly in time to the waltz. His arms
were prepared should she suddenly feel the need to lean at any point.
His frame locked just as his own foster mother had taught him. He took
small steps at first just to make sure she could handle it. Then took a
long step back on her good side.
It wasn't too bad. There were still a few twinges, but Meledei had
been told to expect this. She was ride worthy, but dancing was using
muscles that hadn't been used in some time and she would have to get
those back into shape. "You have good form." The goldrider noted.
She wasn't anywhere near to the level of highly trained harpers, but
she could recognise talent and skill when she saw it. "Who taught
you?"
"Thanks," he smiled. She was a pretty girl and a very pleasant armful.
"It was my foster mother. She loved to dance and had taken special
classes with the Harpers so when I got tall enough she started
teaching me."
"She taught you well." Meledei was decent, but she didn't have the
style and grace that R'enh had - especially not now with her limping
gait. "We don't have enough dances around here, really."
"Ok, I am going to try something so just do what my hands tell you."
She was actually following him quite well with only an occasional
missed step. He lifted her hand above her head and with a push at her
waist sent her into a twirl then pulled her back into his arms with a
grin. "We'll do that only on your good foot so you can look very
graceful, like just now."
"Yes, I definitely wouldn't look graceful on my other leg." Meledei
agreed as she settled back into his embrace. "I guess that's one way
to hide it, hm?"
He smiled. "Yes, we'll make you look wonderfully graceful." His mind
was going quickly through the possible moves she could do in this
style of dance. "Ok, now I want you to tilt your head slightly back
and arch your back. Then look at the horizon here." He squeezed her
hand where he held their arms outstretched. "We're going to go around
in a circle in time to the music. I will be looking where we're going
and you look at where we've been. You're going to have to trust me
like you trust Elleth when you're flying. Ok?"
"Sure." Meledei knew she could trust R'enh, she had no problem with
that. She did as he instructed, tilting her head back and arching her
back. It made her lean against his hold upon her, but he was strong
and she didn't really weigh that much.
Around and around they went. He twirled her out one more time and as
the music came to a close he pulled her back in and dipped her across
his knee. He grinned down into her face for a moment and then pulled
her back up. "Very good, you got that fast. I think we'll be able to
learn several dances rather quickly."
"What can I say?" Meledei stated with a answering grin. "I have a
good teacher."
