Too incredible

Writers: Paula, Len
Date Posted: 6th October 2011

Characters: T'bel, Aileyan
Description: Aileyan hear the news of M'non's death from T'bel.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 4, day 4 of Turn 6
Notes: Follows: Death in the Afternoon

Aileyan had already done her part of the Fall and they landed on the
Weyr. Being small, Kjarliheth tired quickly and today's wind had been
hard enough so she was exhausted. Aileyan pulled her helmet off and
thanked the candidate offering her water skin. She took a long
swallow.

}: Fanth's coming in, she looks hurt :{ Kjarliheth remarked.

**Oh, shards, I hope they are all right!** Aileyan replied. T'bel was
a friend. She handed the water back to the candidate and run to meet
the landing pair.

The small green landed in a heap, as her back leg couldn't support
stopping her flight. T'bel's chest slammed into her neck ridges,
knocking the breath right out of him. Vaugely he could feel the
healers trying to get him off so they could tend to Fanth who was
keening in distress.

Aileyan took a step back so she wouldn't hinder the healers. "T'bel!"
she called.

The young rider fell against Aileyan, trying to both catch his breath
and control his tears. "Fanth..is she alright?"

"She looks like she's been clawed. The healers are on her. What
happened?" Aileyan replied and asked. She supporeted him as much as
her petite body allowed. She staggered. T'bel wasn't awfully large,
but he was much bigger and heavier that she was.

The short man shook his head, unable to speak for a moment as the
healers worked on Fanth. Poor little T'eim ...and M'non! He froze when he
realised who exactly
was standing next to him. How could he break the terrible news to
her?

"T'bel? " Aileyan asked with concerned voice. "Do you need healer
too?" she asked.

"No, no sweetie, I'm okay." He turned to Fanth, who had quieted down
now that the numbweed was taking effect. Taking Aileyan by the hand,
he walked around to where his green had been clawed. Steeling
himself, he made himself look at the wound. It was bad but it didn't
impede in her fighting abilities. Three deep, long marks ran cross
ways down her left hind flank. **My love, you're going to be fine.
It's not as bad as we may have feared.**

"How did she get claw-marks? I would expect Thread score," Aileyan asked.

How would he tell her? Personally he always hated it when people
would tell him to sit down, hating any bad news to be held in
suspense, like a mystery novel or some other such silly thing.

"Aileyan..." He held both her hands tight. "It's M'non...he's gone."

She didn't react right away. It was too incredible to believe. All
colour drained from her face and a sound like suppressed whimper
escaped her lips. "H-how?" her voice was just a whisper.

"There was another dragon..he got threaded...badly. He was dying and
M'non...he and his blue, they tried to save him. The brown...he
clamped onto Jarith, they couldn't get free before he went
/between/." At that all the tears he had been holding in spilled down
his face. The realization that the gentle wingthird was gone--truly
gone--all because of some stupid boy who hadn't had the
discipline...no that was churlish. Poor young T'eim
was gone too. He didn't deserve his fate either.

Aileyan's lips trembled. She couldn't believe her ears. M'non dead?

"I know, my love." He wrapped his arms around her, squeezing her tightly.

Aileyan just stared the injured green in shock.
