Description: Benani comes in for her checkup.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 4, day 5 of Turn 6
He had been rummaging through some of his rare smith-made tools. The
shiny silver metal gleamed and Chupsin was proud of them. He didn't have
to use them often, thank Faranth, but they were a fine set-given to him
when he'd gotten his knots. Putting them in order, he turned when an
apprentice cleared their throat.
"Sir, Lady Benani is here. I put her in the front room."
Nodding, he washed his hands, then walked forward. He spotted Benani and
came closer. "It's that time, aye, mlady?"
"Yes," she said with a smile. She was already beginning to feel
awkward and ungainly even though she still had months to go. The
babies were very active and sometimes even woke her up at night.
Things seemed to be moving along quite fast.
"Come back and please have a seat. Are you thirsty?" He led her back to
where she could change into a gown and sit. She knew the routine at this
point, but Chupsin wanted the opportunity to watch her walk.
Benani preceded him toward the back where she would change for the
exam. She'd worn one of her dresses that laced in the front to make
it easier to disrobe and redress by herself without help. Of course
she was favoring loose fitting clothing these days. "No, I'm fine,"
she said.
She seemed to be doing well balancing so far, which was good. He noted
that her gait had changed slightly, as expected. Chupsin let her do what she needed, gathering up her information while she was readying.
When she reached the privacy of the room she stepped behind the screen
to change into the gown that was provided for the exam. Then stepped
up to sit on the table and cover herself with the drape. "Ready," she
called.
Slipping inside quietly, he nodded to her and set aside his hides. Chupsin
reached inside a drawer for the sterilized instruments he was going to need. As he arranged them, he asked her questions. "So have there been any changes since last time?"
"Well the babies are much more active." She knew they were rolling
around most of the day and night. "Sometimes it's hard to sleep."
"No more illness and dizziness or anything like that? You should be settling down with that lessening at this point. You should also be eating a lot more." Turning around, he approached her slowly. Placing his hands on her abdomen, he pushed slowly around the pressure points.
"No," she said, "The sickness is past. Though sometimes I do still
feel a little light headed. I've slowed down my work and handed most
of it off to Lady Yanley." Her sister had pitched in with such good
will that Benani had felt she could just let go. Yanley had been a
Lady Holder in her own right for so long that she'd needed next to no
coaching from her younger sibling to handle all of Benani's daily
tasks with great ease. "She is such a great help."
"She is a help to me as well," he admitted, thinking of her sister. "Actually, I am trying to train her to be your midwife when the time comes if you are agreeable." Chupsin would need help with twins, that much was sure.
"Oh? That is wonderful news." Benani had more confidence in her sister
than she did in most other people. "Yes, I think I would like that.
But you'll still be there right?"
"Aye mlady though your husband was thinking of trying to see if a Master
would come. I don't know if he had any success." Clearly Chupsin was confident in his own abilities, even if it were a riskier pregnancy due to twins.
"And have you delivered twins before?" She was interested to see why
her husband would ask that other than that he would want the best for
his wife and children.
"I have for certain," he answered easily. Arrogant about what he could
do, Chupsin was the first to admit what he couldn't. If he didn't think he could help Benani through, he would tell her. Satisfied with her abdomen, he began to look at other things, checking at her progress.
Somehow his answer pleased her. "Good," she said with a smile at the
ceiling. She was beginning to feel comfortable with Chupsin as her
doctor, and if her sister were her midwife then she felt very much
better about the whole thing. As much as she put on the brave face for
those around her, birthing twins scared her more than she let anyone
see.
"Well I think you are progressing normally. We need to stick with the nutrition plan I gave you to make sure you have all the nutrients you need. Also, continue with less stress and light duty. It's important to not overtax yourself and get enough rest." He knew it was similar to what she had heard before. "I still want you to walk as much as you can, though."
She nodded, by now she was realizing that those around her were trying
to keep her and the babies as healthy as possible. She was beginning
to feel huge and ungainly so the idea of walking didn't appeal at the
moment. "Alright," she agreed. "Though it won't be near as much as I
used to walk before I got pregnant."
"Of course mlady," Chupsin left to allow her to get dressed. So far,
she was doing fine without complications. He could only hope it continued.
