P'nal grabbed his mug of ale and headed over to his usual table. The
brownrider had been mulling over what all had been happening and
completing his duties. The wing had improved and he had a few other
plans to keep it that way. G'nir was busy trying to keep tabs on U'kaiah
and whatever other Weyrleader things needed doing. The new batch of
graduated weyrlings was keeping him busy as well.

"Finally found the bottom of that pile of hides?" asked D'nev.

T'bel looked up when D'nev spoke, as he had begun to nod off. "Hey
P'nal." He nodded to the empty seat across from the bluerider.

P'nal sat down and nodded, leaning back into his seat. He sipped from his
mug and wiped the froth from his face. "I'm thinking of growing a bit of a
beard. What do you think?"

"I think you'll end up looking like one of us after making some man
very happy, thinking of how much more 'froth' that'll end up on your
face with a beard for it to stick to!" T'bel laughed, as he watched
the brownrider wiping his face.

D'nev snorted. "But what about when the ladies start moaning about
stubble burn?"

"Ah feck, that's true.. Well scratch that anyway." He took another drink,
feeling his body loosen. "So how's everyone doing? D'nev, your girl did
fine."

"So I see," the eggs on the sands were proof of that. "Now all those eggs
need are good candidates to impress the hatchlings."

"You not talked to her yet?" T'bel turned to his old friend,
incredulous. "How much longer is she going to pout about that?"

"I'll have to let her decide," D'nev said with a shrug. "I made sure she
knows where I am when she's ready."

"Hey, the last time I looked, she and J'nev were the kids..." T'bel
gave him a look.

P'nal was wisely staying out of this one. The brownrider didn't have
children that he knew of, but he knew how people could get touchy about such subjects. He knew D'nev very well, but he still would never tell him what to do about his children. Sipping his drink, he grabbed some bread and buttered it.

T'bel glanced across the table and raised his eyebrows at P'nal. Teenturners were such a touchy lot. It made him more than glad to be
a greenrider.

"They are growing up, and they have dragons of their own, that makes them
adults."

"True...so anyone doing anything interesting these days?" Anything
to change the subject, T'bel thought.

"Just thinking about if I'm really going to find someone to take to the hatching," the brownrider offered. He had a few women he kept company with every now and again, but nothing specific.

"Handsome guy like you? I would have thought that would have been a
piece of piss, finding someone." T'bel eyed him over his glass like
he was a bit mad.

"Or maybe you'll find a nice holder lass that wants the company of a rider
for the evening," suggested D'nev.

"Nah I did that at Turns' End. This time I want a real go-together." He
started to think about it in his mind.

"You try asking Hanni out? I don't think she's attached to anyone?"
And she was beautiful. Of course T'bel was biased in her favor, but
she was nice, intelligent, and easy on the eye.

"Yeah but you can't date around with your own wingriders. It fecks things
up and I will not be U'kaiah," he said, since the other two of them knew
what he thought about that.

"Oh please, no one gonna think you're going to run out and rape some
poor girl. Everyone at some point or another dates a fellow
wingrider." T'bel flushed a tiny bit, thinking of worse things he had
done with fellow wingriders, and more than one at a time. "Come on,
Hanni's so pretty. And she's smart and funny and sexy as they get.
How can you go wrong?"

"T'bel, it'd be different if I was a wingrider and they were too, but I'm
not anymore. It's an awkward thing having to order your woman around all the time. And then what if she fecks up and I have to call her on it? Nah, I'm allright." He thought of a few other greenriders around.

"I'm sure you'll find someone to go with you."

T'bel grumbled to himself. Hanni would be fun to date, if only this
guy could see. Who else could he set up? "How about Cardella? She's
well pretty and is nice to boot."

"Is that the girl in the same class as G'wen?" asked D'nev.

"She is..." T'bel eyed D'nev. "You like that boy?" He might as well
play matchmaker for both; it didn't take any more effort.

"I think he's making the point that they're both younger than his own
children." P'nal grinned. He had a history of enjoying women around his
own turns unless it came to one night stands. A roll in the furs was a roll, and those he was indiscriminate about.

"Too young for us, maybe."

"I give up then, you're on your own." T'bel mock threw his hands up in
the air and studied his drink.

Laughing at T'bel's freeloving self, P'nal finished his glass. "Well seems
like it's time for bed before a long day tomorrow. So much to do and so
little time to do it."

"Off to a cold bed for you then," T'bel teased before finishing his own
drink.

"At least mine won't be cold," D'nev added. "That feline of mine will see to that."
