Description: Chupsin checks Arippa out now that she's becoming a young lady.
Location: Amber Hills Hold
Date: month 4, day 2 of Turn 6
The journeyman healer began to get ready for his next appointment.
Reading over the record hides, he caught up on who it was and their
history so far. Once he was prepared, he headed in to see his patient.
Arippa wasn't all that sure about this. Her normally sweet and
compliant step-mother had been uncharacteristically stubborn about
this visit. She'd come into Arippa and Faldrimme's room that morning
and informed her of her appointment with the healer. None of her
sulking or dark looks had swayed her in the least and she finally gave
in.
Now here she was feeling very uncomfortable while she waited. Then the
door opened.
"Good morning, Arippa. How are we feeling today?" Chupsin wasn't
as stuffy as older healers and if it wasn't for his professionalism, the
young women might have thought he was sizing them up for marriage
himself. He walked toward her and sat down on his stool, bringing his
hide and stylus up onto the counter for notes.
She wasn't exactly sure of what he was going to examine today so she
simply perched on the edge of the table with her legs swinging below her.
"I'm fine," she said with a little twitch of her brows.
"No abnormal bleeding or anything I need to be aware of?" He made a
few notes as he arranged his supplies.
"Um, no nothing abnormal." She was monumentally uncomfortable with
this and for once wished her stepmother were here in the room with her.
"Allright, let me explain what is going to happen today. Before a young
woman begins courting, we need to make sure that everything is working
properly. It would be a shame to be courting and then be married and find
out you have problems, aye?" Chupsin continued to arrange his things, instead
of looking right at her.
She couldn't really bear to look at the handsome healer as her face
flamed. "Y-yes," she said hoping he didn't really hear the stammer.
She wasn't scared as much as painfully embarrassed.
"Now if you can lay back for me..." He watched her, thinking. "We're going to
do this as quick as possible." He washed his hands in redwort, carefully.
Arippa did as he asked, closed her eyes and took a deep breath.
Clenching her teeth she pulled the drape up to her chin, not that it
would do her any good.
"Look at the ceiling and think of good things," he said softly, as he pulled
the bottom up. "Feet apart please and place them in the cups there. That's
a girl. You're going to feel a coolness as I put the smoother in and then a
bit of pressure." He worked, trying to be quick.
She tried to do exactly as he said but couldn't help a small sound
when the cold instrument touched her skin. The feeling was unpleasant
and her mind couldn't help wandering to what a husband might want to
do with her and she bit her lips. No matter what kind of a brave
front she put on Arippa had never even been kissed. "Are you almost
done?"
"Just a few more minutes. Try to think about something else." He leaned
down to look through his magnifying glass, checking for any abnormalities
and to determine whether or not she might have problems to be corrected.
Of the parts he could see, it seemed everything was in working order.
Once he was done with his examination, he pulled everything out and set
them aside, scrubbing his hands. "Arippa, are your menses regular?"
A feeling of relief washed over her when it was done. She still
clutched the cover even while trying to appear relaxed. Anyone who
looked at her hands would have seen the white knuckles. "Yes they
are," she said in answer to his question.
"You can sit up now." He stood and went to where he had been writing.
"Are they painful at all?"
"Yes," she said without looking at him. "Sometimes walking helps but
other times... well I just have to lay down."
"Hmm...I'd suggest warm tea with just a bit of willowsalic in it, like you
would for a headache." He knew some girls always had problems with that
sort of thing. "How long does that last?" Usually it only occurred during the
first day.
She did enjoy a nice cup of tea so putting a little willowsalic in it
would be easy enough. "A few hours, maybe a day?"
"Good that's about normal then. Do that and see if it helps next time. Is there
anything else that's been bothering you that I need to look at while
you're here?" Chupsin liked to handle everything at once if he could.
There was really nothing else she could think of so she told him so.
"No, I think that is all."
