Notes: Sh'dori's Intro
"Are you nuts?!" Sh'dori asked incredulously. "You want to scale down on that?" he was looking down to a vertical drop of glacier wall. The glacier had split sometime in ancient history, making a deep gorge of sheer ice, and his greenrider brother wanted to descend it. "You are nut," Sh'dori said with conviction this time.
"Come on, where's your sense of adventure, big bro?"
"Somewhere warm, where I would like to be."
A'dori handed him a rope. "Just hold it tightly. If you feel one tug, stop. Two tugs means lower me slowly, three tugs, lift me up. Several frantic tugs, get me up sharding quickly."
"You're nutty" Sh'dori growled when he tied the rope around his waist and secured the end to the ground.
The greenrider started to climb down the ice-wall. He was taking measures, Sh'dori remembered his earlier explanation, of different layers of the glacier. The thickness of the layer would tell the general temperature of the era and help him, somehow, predict if Pern was now moving towards warmer or colder climate. Sh'dori had to confess he hadn't understood all of it. Or even listened properly, since it really didn't interrest him. A'dori had always been the brains of the family. Rest of them were craftsmen.
While A'dori was down there, the brownrider had a change to observe his surroundings. They were on glacier, their dragon's were curled up together for warmth and everything he could see was brilliant white or the bluest sky he ever seen before. And it was cold. It only took A'dori about fifteen or twenty minutes before he came back up again.
"Can we go home now? I'm frozen solid," Sh'dori demanded and coiled the rope.
"Yes," A'dori answered curtly and gathered rest of their things. His lips were blue, Sh'dori noticed.
"And when we come home, you're taking a hot bath right away" he told when they walked over to their dragons.
"Yes, mama," the greenrider rolled his eyes.
}: Can we go now? I don't like this place. :{, Rahmuth asked, rising up to his legs.
** Yes, and I don't like it either.**
They mounted their dragons and after short while in /between/ they were back, circling over the Dolphin Cove Weyr.
** Land on the weyr ledge, ** Sh'dori instructed.
The brown obeyed and soon Sh'dori was dismounted and shedding of layers and layers of warm clothing he was wearing. Following his own advice, he went to take a hot bath, as hot he could dare. Under his clothing he was a large man of early fifties, his dark curly hair striped with grey, his body covered with dark curly hair. Women in his life often compared him to a bed fur.
After a bath and several mugs of hot klah, Sh'dori was starting to feel warm again. He sat on dining cavern when Rahmuth's mind touched his.
}: Zinzikerth is worried about her life-mate. {, the brown told.
**What's wrong? ** Sh'dori asked, concerned.
He was already up on his feet when Rahmuth answered after a pause.
}: She says he doesn't stop shivering. :{
Cursing under his breath, Sh'dori first headed for the kitchen. After few quick words with his mother, he was soon landing on A'dori's weyr's ledge, loaded with thermos full of klah, hot fruit tarts and several heated waterbottles.
The green made a room for them, eyes swirling with anxiety and worry.
"Don't worry, Zinzi-girlie. I take care of that rider of yours," he told the worried green and entered his brother's weyr. He found A'dori sitting on table, wrapped in bed fur and shivering uncontrollably. His face was pale and lips were still blue. Sh'dori shook his head. "You didn't take that bath, did you?"
"N-n-no, I w-wan-wanted to wr-rite clear my-my no-notes f-ff-first," A'dori answered thru chattering teeth.
"And now you're suffering from exposure." He clicked his tongue and took a mug from A'dori's shelf. "You science guys are crazy. In to the bed," he ordered. The chilled greenrider obeyed. Sh'dori poured him klah and placed the water bottles around him, covering the whole thing with several bed furs.
"You know, you're worse than a wherry hen with chicks," A'dor commented wryly after a while. His face and lips were regaining normal colour.
"Well, someone has to be practical around here," the brownrider snorted. "I look after my family."
