"So, here we are, at the scene of the crime." T'bel gave D'nev a
quite evil grin as he waited for his glass of wine to show up.
After some haggling, the two had decided to escape the Weyr and come
for a drink or several at the Vintner Hall. It was a nice day and
their dragons could happily sun themselves outside. And T'bel figured
he just needed to get away from the atmosphere that was around his
weyrmate since the man's son was found half shagged by Sh'lua. He sat
back and studied D'nev, raising an eyebrow.
"Just what are you planning T'bel?" asked D'nev as he scanned the menu and
specials written on the wall. "The spiced herdbeast risotto sounds good."
"Planning? Me? Nothing, just eating...and yes that_does_sound good."
A change of pace--food-wise--would be nice. He was giving the girl
his order and taking a sip of well deserved wine when the burly form
of N'ki slipped down beside him.
"Hello gorgeous! Hello D'nev." The man nodded to his fellow bluerider
before turning back to T'bel. "So when are you going to dump that
chump, G'waren, and get a real man in those furs with you? And
speaking of, is that boy of his still alive or has he killed him yet?"
"Pretty spectacular way to get himself noticed," said Hanni as she slipped
in beside T'bel.
"Hello, sweetie!" T'bel hugged Hanni tightly. "I know, poor baby. Of
all the weyrlings, I would have thought G'wen would be least likely to
be the center of gossip." T'bel rolled his eyes at that. "He's not
even all that good looking."
"I suppose he's kind of cute," said D'nev. "But very young." The waitress
came his way and he did indeed order the risotto.
"He's not all_that_young," N'ki quipped. "I'd do him." The boy ran a
tad bit more pretty than N'ki would like..he liked_men_after all, not
some little thing that looked like a 12 turn old girl. "Got nice lips
though...I'll have to ask Sh'lua what they felt like--"
"You come within 100 feet of him for that and you're dead, got it?" T'bel gave
the man a stern look. The last thing that poor child needed was a cad
like N'ki in his bed. "And whilst we're at it, don't even think of
Cardella either. I want that lazy blue of yours_nowhere_around when
those two greens Fly the first time, got it? " T'bel looked at Hanni
and D'nev and rolled his eyes. "Like a first time Flight isn't bad
enough with the thought of a jerk like you waiting at the end."
"There are worse riders they could get," Hanni said as she sipped at her
ale. "I mean some of those bronze boys...."
"Yeah, see, I'm not one of the worse! I'm not on bronze, at least..."
N'ki winked at Hanni for her backhanded compliment. "And don't you
worry about your little pet, Cardella, I don't run that way and you
know it. Now wee 'ickle G'wen on the other hand..."
"If he grows up, well..." D'nev jumped in. "Although I think he was kind of
set on proving he is old enough."
"He's old enough." N'ki was not ashamed to say he had been with boys
younger than the green weyrling. "He just looks..well..like a 10 turn
old girl." He laughed into his drink at that, but the boy did
look..well...
"Oh, I think I looked older than he did at ten turns." Hanni grinned, "And
at his age I'm sure I was up to just as much scandal."
"At 10 he looked like he should have still been in nappies!" N'ki
shook his head, thinking about the boy when he was just a little one.
"He was a cute kid, then. And yes, you, I seem to recall you up to
no good when you were a weyrling." He wrapped a coy arm around the
girl's shoulders.
"Well there was that time with a bronzerider when we couldn't wait to get
back to his weyr or mine and found a handy store cupboard... "
"Only once with a bronze rider?" T'bel asked, rolling his eyes.
"Once that I'm admitting to," Hanni said with a grin.
"Who was the lucky boy then?" T'bel grinned at her, leaning forward.
"Nobody you'd know, D'brek transferred away a long time ago."
"You_could_always run another bronze boy into the cupboard..." N'ki
grinned and winked at her. "It'd give old queens like T'bel and me
something new to gossip about."
"But isn't it about time you gave me something to gossip about?" she
countered.
"I give you something to gossip about every day of the sevenday!"
N'ki laughed and poked T'bel. "Now you, on the other hand. Dump that
jerk G'waren and go paint the place red, you!"
"Let the man eat," D'nev said as the food turned up. "He'll need energy if
he's going to do that."
"He'll need more than energy, he'll need to be broken back in, if you
get my meaning."
"Hey you! That's a cheap shot...just because some of us enjoy
lovemaking and not being buggered to within an inch of our lives..."
T'bel waggled his fork at N'ki. "And don't you look at me that way,
we all here know what you get up to all over the bloody place."
"C'mon N'ki. time to share a little," Hanni urged. "Who's your latest
conquest?"
"More like you mean who isn't, right?" teased T'bel.
N'ki cuffed him on the head and looked at Hanni. "My latest, eh?
Well, you seen that senior weyrling with the long black hair? The
one who rides that really pale minty green one?" The man looked smug.
"Well..before yesterday he_was_a virgin. Now he's a very satisfied
boy looking forward to that first Flight."
T'bel groaned at that, knowing N'ki all too well. "So..it'll more be
like we'll get back to some traumatized little weyrling who's crying on
E'naer's shoulder right now, eh?"
Hanni snorted. "Or he'll be trying it on with E'naer."
"After having this?" N'ki pointed to his lap and smirked. "Not
likely. Now E'naer joining in on round two with that one...."
"As if, he'll probably end up in some classmate's bed the first time round."
D'nev said. "I hope for his sake he gets somebody that won't freak out about
being in bed with another man. I heard a story once.."
"YES...?" Both T'bel and N'ki said at the same time.
"It wasn't pretty," D'nev said. "The youngsters involved..." He shook his
head.
"Listen to him, leaving us all in suspense like this?" N'ki turned to
the others before looking back at D'nev. "So..go on!"
"They both ended up at the Healers. The greenrider, well he was walking
rather funny, and they both had bloody noses. Turns out the bronzerider
really hadn't known what he was getting into and had lashed out at the
greenrider, who was shocked enough to hit back."
"Hmm..." T'bel sighed at that. "This is what scares me with poor
little G'wen. He's so small I can see him getting_really_damaged by
someone." He looked to N'ki, thinking he was just the type to hurt
the boy. Now if he could only get a kind soul like D'nev involved...
"Well if he's lucky it'll be someone he knows. Maybe Sh'lua after that
little escapade."
T'bel harrumphed at that, and N'ki took the lull to speak up.
"Anyone go to the last Hatching at Dolphin's Cove? What_was_that
Weyrwoman from River's Buff wearing?"
"I wish I'd seen it," Hanni said. "Might have given me some ideas."
"Stick two rags on your bits and I'll sew them together...I think that
was about all she was wearing." T'bel gave her a droll look.
"You mean there was that much of it?" she queried.
"If I cut the rags in half there will be."
"Yeah, but at least she's a pretty girl," N'ki added. "Speaking of
weyrwomen, congrats D'nev, on your kid's Clutching. How many did she
have?"
"Thirty three I think."
"Not bad," T'bel added. "How's Onnyth doing?"
"She won't leave them. I think it might drive my daughter nuts, if she'd let
me speak to her that is."
"Yeah? How's_that_going, with the kids?" N'ki perked up at that, not
knowing anything about D'nev and his children.
"If I knew I'd tell you. Neither of them is willing to talk to me. But at
least they seem to talk to each other."
"Still? Whow, they're a couple of right pouters, eh?" T'bel patted
his friend's back and shook his head. Young people..what an odd
bunch.
"I think they think they can't trust you anymore," Hanni said to D'nev.
He nodded. "You are probably right." That was an admission.
"You try talking to Teseada?" To T'bel, she was by far the more sensible
one.
"I think I might wait until those eggs have been there a few more days.
When she really needs the company."
"Yeah..and until then, how about that Rhosyn's dress?"
"Maybe one day I will surprise you all by wearing something similar." Hanni
said with a grin.
"It'll look better on you, m'dear." T'bel reached out and gave the girl a
hug.
"Don't you let me wear it in winter though," Hanni joked.
