Description: Kyreth flies and is caught by Leith!
Location: River Bluff Weyr
Date: month 2, day 6 of Turn 6
With greens, there was a small warning that something was going on.
That they would be rising soon. With most, the rider and the green
got snappy, or annoying. With Jessa, it was generally snappy. She'd
been on edge for three days and she knew that it wasn't long before
her dragon would take to the skies.
She was right. The morning of the sixth day of the month, Kyreth
trumpeted loudly, calling for any and all males who dared to try and
catch her. Jessa knew the drill and made her way out and down to
where all the riders whose dragons were rising would stand and the men
would cluster around as their dragons chased. The green trumpeted
again, high and loud, then launched into the sky.
Falzeth had normally been happy only chasing his rider's mate's dragon
but after losing the last flight he was determined to chase. D'arvn
sighed and made his way to the flight room to stand in the circle
around the female rider.
Leith might be a flirt, but the blue was also used to putting his wings
where his mouth was. So as soon as she took off, he was after her. He
sped through the sky, agile and quick. She wouldn't shake him and he
could smell her on the wind. It was a heady thing and his heart pounded
furiously at the thrill of the chase. }:Here I come, beautiful:{
E'rae joined the rest of them, glancing at the greenrider. She wasn't
half bad. Perhaps it might be a good day after all.
Selenth leapt into the sky just behind the fastest of the blues. As a
tiny sized bronze he felt he was at an advantage with the greens.
With the golds, he had no chance...but with a green... His hapless
lifemate walked into the circle of waiting riders, cheered when he saw
that it was a woman who was the prize today. **Fly well** M'haren
told Selenth.
Zackariath leaped after her, trumpeting a challenge to all other
males. The bronze was apt at catching greens and full of confidence.
Nimyth was gazing intently at Kyreth before J'klin realized what was
going on, leaving the brownrider to get to the flight weyrs in a
hurry. Part of his mind was stuck on Roana, who he'd not had much
contact with over the past sevenday or so, and what she'd think. He
shook the negative thoughts away quickly, though. This was a Weyr,
she'd understand. Nimyth followed the green quickly, desire to catch
filling him. The last green he'd caught was months before, and was the
elderly Soravath. Kyreth on the other hand was a young, agile green,
and he wanted her.
Aughashyth bugled from the top of the heights and ripped into the
skies behind the green as she shot past. He was hungry for a green
flight and he knew this green. **Who** }:Kyreth:{ "Oh boy," he said as
he took the stairs two at a time up to the flight room and though he
didn't move close to Jessalyn he was within reach.
Kyreth may have been a green, but that did not mean she was going to
give in as easily as some greens might. She twisted and dove and
then pulled up sharply, shaking off a couple of dragons that were
tailing her. Her mouth opened and she let out a high trumpet, but the
flight continued on - she hadn't been caught yet!
Zackariath was holding on and staying in her wake. His smaller size and
agility gave him edge over the larger bronzes but he still couldn't
match blues and greens. He could outfly them though. }: Come on,
beauty, be mine! :{ he called to her.
His large wings could carry him for hours behind the pack of dragons
but he didn't have her grace and agility. Aughashyth crooned as he
soared in pursuit }:Lovely one, I am mighty and will fly you well!:{
his voice bellowed.
Falzeth was suckered by one of her fast moves and found himself
suddenly going the wrong way. By the time he was going the right
direction he was far behind the pack.
Nimyth darted quickly around Falzeth, trying to avoid being slowed by
his confusion. His focus was on Kyreth - wooing her, sticking close to
her tail, and conserving his strength for later in the flight. }:Your
beauty is unparalleled, my dear Kyreth. I will win you, and show you
what a real dragon can do!:{
Selenth was well within his element, with her darting and swerving.
Being such a small bronze meant he could keep up with a lot of the
twists and turns and easily was up there with the blues.
The heavier, larger dragons were no match for Leith and his lightning-
quick reflexes. The blue could turn just as fast as she could and his
brilliant hide was hard to miss. She was a prize that he deserved, not
some bronze. }:Let's show these blowhards how we can fly, Kyreth:{
Zackariath did a barrel roll followed with a spiral to impress her with
his flying skills, until a twinge of pain in his wing forced him to
stop.
U'das came concerned when he felt it thru their merge. He started to
pull Zack out of the chase. ** Come back down now.**
}: No! :{ the bronze objected.
** You're not going to cripple yourself just because of some pretty
green,** U'das put all his will into the play.
Grudgingly and snarling with frustration, the bronze turned back to the
Weyr, leaving the chase for the younger ones.
Y'gel felt the pull to step closer to Jessalyn as Aughashyth veered
into Nimyth's path screaming his challenge. He wanted Kyreth her
glowing beauty drew him like a vtol to a flame. His thundering bass
bugle rang out accompanied by his declaration of her beauty.
Kyreth didn't respond to any of the calls that came to her. She darted
off to the left, then to the right. She turned to dive straight toward
the ground, screaming past several dragons, then pulled back up and
bugled a challenge. She would not be so easy to catch!
Nimyth couldn't pursue into the tight dive, so he broke off then,
bugling loudly in frustration. In the flight weyr, J'klin echoed his
dragon's disappointment, before leaving to take a nice, cold bath.
Kyreth twisted and turned and arched her way through the sky. Most of
the dragons that dropped out were the bronzes, not nearly as swift and
agile as she. A couple lingered, a bronze or two, and a few blues.
Finally, she dropped back down, then darted up and shot
straight up like an arrow. Her bugle was almost a laugh, but it was
cut short by a blue who had not fallen for her tricks - Leith had
pulled ahead of the others!
The wily male took advantage of the situation, having bested quite a
few greens in his career as a dragon at River Bluff. Bringing himself
down onto her, he twined as quick as he could, wrapping his tail around
her and his fore claws around her wings. They had to fall-they were
falling. }:You are mine, Kyreth, though it was a good chase. Fall with
me now, lady green and I shall satisfy you:{
And just as Leith trapped Kyreth in the sky, E'rae grabbed Jessalyn
and pulled her to his body. He felt the pull of the dragons and in that
moment, he wanted nothing else.
