B'ram

"Weyrleader?" B'ram was surprised to find J'darin standing outside his weyr door, with a bottle of wine, no less. "Did you want to come in?"
He looked around the room quickly to see if there was anything embarrassing lying about that he would need to hide before opening the door wider.

He'd asked Hasaarth to bespeak Girifith first, and taken a bottle of wine along just in case. But for the most part, he wanted to just get some more information on his new Weyrwoman.

"Good evening, B'ram. I wanted to pick your brain a little more about a few things. Is now a good time, or have you got a greenrider or two in your bed?"

"No no," B'ram said quickly, wondering just what it was the Weyrleader had heard from his new Weyrwoman about him. The smile on J'darin's face quickly told him he was only being teased. "No, not at the moment.
Come on in, please."

He didn't offer to open the wine; he wasn't much of a wine drinker, but he did take a seat inside B'ram's Weyr. "How are you settling in here, B'ram? Different from Far Island, is it?"

"Yes, much. But it's not a bad difference," B'ram assured him as he fetched a couple glasses.

"I'm curious about the differences, honestly. Was Traelyn ever involved in any scandalous relationships, or anything unusual?"

"Scandalous or unusual?" B'ram asked curiously. "Is there such a thing at the Weyr? No, nothing scandalous." He concidered the question as he worked on opening the bottle. "I guess there is one relationship that I would can 'unusual' - L'kub. They were young at the time, though."

"Scandalous perhaps... " J'darin chuckled. "I would call her sudden Senior Weyrwoman status here at Dolphin Cove scandalous." His eyes darkened a bit. He still worried for her responsible capabilities. Could she? He looked back to B'ram as he went on. "Young or not, I think I would find it interesting.."

"Well," B'ram began as he filled both glasses, "Lakub was our good friend since childhood. As we grew older, and as we all started to mature in our feelings towards the opposite sex, Lakub and Traelyn were inseperable. It was clear that they had formed an attachment that was... more than friendly. He was a good man, and anyone would have been lucky to have his attention. Anyway, like I said, he and Traelyn couldn't seem to get enough of each other. That is, until he Impressed a _blue_."

J'darin laughed aloud at that. "Ahh.. a goldrider and a bluerider... and Traelyn unable to handle sharing her bed with men too?"

"That seemed to be the way of it," B'ram nodded. "After he Impressed they kept their relationship going a bit longer, but after she Impressed her gold, Nyith, well... things just went down hill after that. They did try, but even then she was playing the queen of the Weyr. A blue just wasn't good enough for a _goldrider_, no matter how loving and loyal he had been to her for turns. She broke the poor man's heart and moved on to bigger dragons."

J'darin frowned. That smacked of something familiar, but what? The bronzerider didn't realize he played the same prejudices in his everyday life. Poor man, someone should smack him.

"Let's hope she settled out and down eventually and lost her 'attitudes'? I couldn't stand a Weyrwoman who thought she knew better than _me_. "

B'ram chuckled. "Don't take it personally. She thinks she's better than everyone. At least she did when she was younger," he amended.

"That won't last long around here. " J'darin frowned, liking this less and less. "I will continue to hope she grew up a bit, aye?" On a sudden change of topic, he went on. "And how about you, B'ram? Finding some friends here?"

"Ah, well, one or two," the brownrider conceeded. "But I'm not the... loyal friend type anymore."

J'darin looked at him curiously for a moment. "I was a loyal friend type once myself, and then realized I couldn't be, in a Weyr. Want to tell me about it? Since we're sharing gossip like women..." the bronzerider chuckled dryly, and also wondered why he _was_ gossiping like a woman.

"Well, I was in a commited relationship for a couple turns, and I was as faithful as a rider can be. I kept myself to just mating flights. Soon as I left the room, I was with her again. But she apparently couldn't do the same." B'ram shrugged. "What can you do?"

An echo of the same pain B'ram felt shimmered in J'darin's eyes. "You can only move on. I know just how you feel, brownrider." To that, he
_did_ drink.

He nodded. "Well, now I'm here. That's a start, right?"

J'darin raised his glass again, filing away more information about his Weyrwoman, none of it good. "I hope it's a start for us both."
