"Okay, Cardella, let's see what happened to her. Tell her to stay
relaxed, I need to poke around her a bit and it might hurt if I hit a
sensitive spot. Right one was it? " E'naer asked her, leaning to
examine the dragonet's hind legs. She had taken a bad landing during
the flight practise. Worst case scenario was broken bone, but since
she was still standing on all four, E'naer didnt' believe it was that
serious.
"Right, yes," she replied, still running her hands on Awenth's neck.
**It's okay. E'naar is going to look at your leg. Try and relax.**
Awenth snorted, a bit of an acceptance and a means of telling her
rider that she wouldn't be so calm if it were her.
"Is she going to be alright?" Cardella asked, concern evident on her
face and in her tone. Why had she been the only one to have a terrible
first flight? Was she not destined to be a rider like the others?
}:Mine, we will be the _best_ riders in the Weyr!:{ Cardella quickly
turned her attention back to her lifemate, infusing their bond with
love for the small green.
E'near run his hands along the leg, looking for swelling, bruises or
any other sign of injury. He was also observing her reaction, in case
he found the injured place.
Awenth shifted suddenly when E'near's hands ran over an area that
caused her pain. Cardella tried to immediately soothe her little
green, hoping the injury was nothing too severe.
"Aha!" E'naer said. He patted the young green encouragingly," Be brave
girl now, Awenth, I have to press your sore spot even harder to see if
there's something broken inside it." ** Eillie?**
}: He has to hurt you to make you better ,:{ Eillispethe said to
Awenth, ready to calm her down if needed.
E'naer bent back down to examine the injury, it did feel slighty swollen.
She snorted and made a hissing sound the moment he touched the spot.
The pain seemed to shot up through her body. Awenth thrashed her head
in pain, almost knocking Cardella over in the process. She wanted to
calm her green, but she was so shocked for a moment that Cardella just
stood there, gaping.
Finally, she stepped forward again and tried to talk to Awenth. **Calm
down, Awenth. E'near is helping you! It's going to be alright.**
E'naer finished his examination and straightened up. "Don't worry, it
isn't serious," he patted the young green. "Her leg was in wrong
position and she twisted or sprained a ligament. I'll put a poultice
on it for the night to reduce swelling and soreness. It will be sore
for while and heal all by itself. If you want to, you can use a
supporing bandage on the injured joint, but it's not necessary," he
told Cardella.
"Thank you, E'near." Cardella replied, pleased to know that the injury
was not severe. "Can we resume training with the others or should we
sit out for a time?"
"Rest her leg for rest of the today, tomorrow she can train as usual. It's
better if she just moves normally and don't start watching out for that
leg," E'naer replied.
Cardella nodded, taking in all of his words. Then, just before he was
through, she had to ask the question that was bothering her. "Am I the only
one who can't fly correctly the first time? Does this happen to other people
or did I do something wrong?" Her face was full of her upset and concern.
She hoped that she had not caused this injury somehow.
"No, you're not only one," E'naer assured her. "If it isn't landing wrong,
it's someone overstraining a wing or something else. I never seen a clutch
get past this stage without at least some injuries," he continued. And when
the training progressed, the injuries could only get worse. He pushed that
thought away.
Cardella felt somewhat better after E'naer reassured her. "Thank you
E'naer," she told him once more. "Do you think it's okay if we watch the
others or should I take Awenth back and have her rest now?"
"You can watch," E'naer said, giving the young green a final pat on
shoulder. She would be fine.
