Cardella

Cardella

J'nev adjusted the collar on his new bright green tunic and brushed an
imaginary piece of lint from his sandy-brown trousers. Where was she?
She was coming, wasn't she? She knew he was waiting, didn't she? Did
someone else try to interfere and poison her against him? If she
thought she could just stand him up... He was just about to ask his
bronze to contact her green when to his relief he heard a familiar
voice.

"Evening, J'nev," Cardella greeted him as she approached. The deep
colored gown she worn seemed to cling to her curves just right and sway
with each step she took. Cardella herself would have hardly known what
she looked like, having thought for Turns that she was nothing but
mousey and ordinary compared to her sisters. Yet in the most recent
turns she'd
begun to grow into her own womanly shapes and the gown she'd borrowed
from one of the other women in the Weyr clearly accentuated just how
womanly she had become.

She moved up beside him, brushing her lips gently across his cheek in
greeting. "I'm so glad we get to spend this time together."

The bronzerider's jaw dropped slightly as his eyes wandered over those
lovely curves. Shards, she looked... incredible! "Uh... Me too," he
finally stuttered, suddenly wishing they could celebrate this night
properly. Taking her hand he began leading her towards the party before
he kept thinking such stupid ideas. She was still a weyrling, after
all, and even J'nev wouldn't dare mess with her before her time.

She followed along, feeling rather pleased with his reaction. Clearly
the dress she'd borrowed had done what her friend had said it would. She
would have to remember to thank her later. With her hand in his,
Cardella leaned against his arm and whispered. "I'm exciting. It's my
first
Turn's End celebration here."

It was only his second, but he was looking forward to it as much as she.
"Things get a little wilder than they do in the Hold, that's for sure.
But it's a lot of fun."

"Tell me more about what the celebrations were like in your old hold?"
She asked. Cardella had made a promise that she would learn more about
J'nev, find out what he was really all about and while they'd seen each
other here and there after they'd made up, neither of them had really
had
enough time to sit down and really talk.

J'nev shrugged a shoulder. "Much like any other Hold, I should think.
Music, food, games, stalls. I kind of miss the stalls. There was this
one guy who made the best grilled herdbeast on a stick."

"That sounds lovely," she replied. "Maybe someone here will have
something like that." As they entered the main hall it was evident that
the party was already in full swing. Needing to raise her voice slightly
to be
heard over the din, she asked, "Did your family do anything special for
Turns
End?"

What was this sudden interest in his past all of a sudden? What had she
heard exactly, he wondered. "Giving gifts, like everyone else I guess.
And my mother would bake a special fruit bread. Hey, look, they've got
porcine bread pockets! I love those things. Want some?"

"Sure!" She replied easily, happy to be learning more about him. This
was what she'd wanted. As she walked with him to the table of treats she
couldn't help but wonder what things would be like once the restrictions
were lifted. What would happen between them then. She felt a hint of
nervousness and excitement at the thought. Taking on of the bread
pockets, she took a bit. "Delicious!"

"They are." He picked one up. "So... uh... How about your family?"
J'nev didn't really care about their traditions, but she probably did,
and he wanted to at least seem interested in her former life.

"Oh, well mom and da always brought out the best of the foods," she
said, happy to be thinking of her family. She missed them. "My mom made
some of the best sweet desserts, even though she didn't have to cook
them,
she always did. I loved helping her." Cardella's face had taken on a
slightly dreaming look, recalling those fond memories of home. "We sang
alot, told stories and played games." With so many siblings it had often
made
for a bit of rowdy fun. "I wish they could be here," she added a bit
quietly.

"Well, that's why _I'm_ here," he said, taking her hand and pulling her
closer to his body. "To make sure you don't feel alone on Turns End."

She giggled slightly as she felt a thrill rush through her at his words.
He really _did_ care about her, she knew he did. She was glad that she
had not let the others convince her otherwise. "Come on let's go grab a
seat
before they're all taken," she declared pointing towards a pair of seats
very close together.

He allowed her to lead him on, sitting down on the seat and stretching
his arm out along the back of the seat behind her. There was nothing
wrong with innocent touches and maybe not quite so innocent flirting.
There were boundaries, he knew, and he had no intention of pushing
those. But walking up to them might be fun... When she sat down, he
leaned a little closer and whispered close to her ear, "You look very
beautiful tonight, you know."

She blushed slightly, turning to look at him. Their faces were so close
together, she could almost kiss him. For a moment, she nearly did, but
she wasn't sure where the boundary for the rules were, and she didn't
want
to cross any of them. "Thank you, J'nev." She did lean into him,
allowing
herself to feel the warmth of his body against her own.

"I wish your little green had already gone /between/ so we could
_really_ celebrate tonight," he murmured, his fingers lightly caressing
along her arm.

She felt a shiver run down her spine at his touch and his words. She'd
done her best _not_ to think about what would happen soon. Partly
because it
meant that Awenth's first flight would come soon and she wasn't ready
for that yet. But, J'nev. Well, that was different. She was _attached_
to
him. Gently, she slid her fingers over his other hand, smiling up at
him.

"I'd like that," she whispered quietly, blushing profusely at the
thought, but finding she desired it none the less.

"Once you've gone /between/, you know you and I could do _anything_," he
said softly, his other hand coming to rest lightly on her knee.

Her breath nearly caught in her throat as she felt her body react to his
words. She knew then that she couldn't wait for that time to come. She
turned, her eyes gazing into his, her mouth not far from his. Yet,
Cardella
didn't move. She wanted nothing more than to kiss him, but she didn't
know
if that would break the rules and with her being so very close to
reaching
senior status she was _not_ about to do anything to jeopardize that!

She was really pushing that line, and as exciting as their small
rebellion was, as hard as it was not to lean just a little closer and
touch his lips to hers, it was a rule that even J'nev would not break.
With some difficulty, he leaned back just enough to put a bit of space
between them. "It won't be long now. And it's something to look
forward to."

She sighed. Cardella really was anxious for that time to come. Both
because she knew she would be free to explore once more with J'nev and
also because of how downright nervous she felt about what that all
meant. Cardella looked up as she heard the music pick up.

"Do you want to dance?" She asked him, knowing she could be close to
him then, but in a different way that would not cross the line.

"Sure, that sounds good," he smiled, moving his hand from her knee to
her hand. "My sisters made sure I had plenty of practice, so don't
worry for your toes."

"Wonderful," she smiled, standing and waiting for him to lead her onto
the dance floor.
