Tavia

Tavia

It was Sawauth that woke her up. Early morning light peeked through
the light curtain when she opened her eyes. But there were other
noises too. Sawauth was humming softly. She threw off her covers and
rolled to her feet.

She was very surprised to see a pair of flits sitting on her table.
She hadn't left any food out and her covered bowl was still covered.
She rubbed her eyes and her brows came together. The little brown was
humming?

Tavia didn't sleep in much of anything so she threw on one of the
caftans she liked to lounge in. Realizing what was probably about to
happen, her heart started pounding and she went straight for the jar.
She heard a sound from inside and transferred it quickly to the table.

More flits of every color popped into being or swooped through the
entrance. All were singing or humming as they found purches on chairs
or any surface. She trembled with excitement and she pulled the lid
from the jar. Fingers went to her mouth and her mind flew back to the
vision of her impression and the eggs rocking on the sands of the
hatching grounds. This little one was every bit as eager to open her
prison.

}:Soon, soon:{ sang Sawauth. Tavia looked up with bright eyes to see
her lovely lifemate festooned with a rainbow of flits. The little queen had a
welcoming court eager for her arrival. A small crack sounded and
Tavia's attention whipped back to the egg.

She started humming herself thinking encouragement and praises for
such a brave one. Silently she urged the little one to break her way
free. Her hand reached across the table to gather the little bowl
close in preparation.

The little egg stopped rocking for a moment and she thought she heard
scratching or scrabbling from inside the warmth of the bowl.

"Come on little one, you can do it." she said and the lull was over.
The egg shivered and shook with the agitation of its occupant. Tavia
held her breath unconsciously willing the egg to break. She lifted the
lid off the bowl.

A tiny crack appeared in the surface of the egg and a small piece fell
out. She could see a nose and then part of an eye through it. The
humming grew louder around her and a young blue moved closer.  She
lifted a hand to shoo him back as a mother might guarding her egg. Of
course he took exception to it until one of the bronzes scolded him
sending him away with a well-placed nip.

"Thank you" she said to the bronze. She smiled at his answering chirp.

The humming grew louder and more cracks threaded their way pop by pop
through the shell. Suddenly the side of the shell fell away and a
little golden body spilled onto the sand to lie panting for a moment.

Tavia reached into the dish for a small gob of meat she projected
thoughts of food at the little one and used to fingers to hold out the
morsel. Her eyes whirled with hunger as she'd seen Sawauths so many
times in her life and the little head rose to snatch it from her
fingers greedily.

She grinned from ear to ear and grabbed another to hold out. The
little queen righted herself and dragged the last of her tail free of
her shell. Tavia gave her another bite to gulp down and another.

Little by little she lured the little queen to her other hand. Tiny
wings flared as she stepped daintily onto Tavia's palm and rubbed her
small head against her thumb. Then there was a very clear demand for
more food. Tavia obeyed and another piece followed after that. Soon
the little golden beauty curled up in her hand sated and happy.

}:I want to see:{ Tavia chuckled and rose carefully from her seat.
Many of the little queen's birthing court had disappeared though she
hadn't noticed as busy as she was feeding the tiny thing.  She walked
slowly trying not to disturb the hatchling.  A fingernail reached
carefully to flick a small piece of shell from where it was stuck to
her tail. "Isn't she glorious?" she asked her lifemate. "Ohhh that's a
good name for her... Glory!"

Sawauth made an indescribable noise in the back of her throat  and
leaned forward to get a better look. }:She's very small:{  "Yes she
is. and she always will be."  Several other pairs of whirling eyes
watched from various perches on the green dragon. Tavia looked around
and smiled at all the little firelizards. "Well aren't you miss
popular this morning?"  }:They like me:{

"I'm sure thats it," she chuckled.
