Meledei slowed down to a more relaxed pace, trying to school her
breathing into something deeper, to pour the air back into her lungs
and catch her breath. She glanced behind her and noted the tracks
that led through the sand, one set going, one set returning. She
wasn't far from the Weyr, having jogged a certain distance, and then
turned to jog back. Now there was enough distance for a nice cool
down walk before breakfast. And drills. The Weyr hovered in the
short distance away, but another figure appeared, small and distant at
first, but walking toward each other, Meledei could soon see that the
figure was actually a man, and not one familiar with her. When they
drew closer, she lifted a hand and offered a smile and a wave.

C'thel had slipped out of the Weyr as soon as sunlight broke through
the darkness of his private weyr. He was itching to get out and
stretch his legs. Aloreth had already taken to the bowl to tend to the
fresh meat leaving him alone to entertain himself. He had promised to
give him a thorough scrubbing when he returned. That would assuage the
blue nicely.

He had taken to walking along a well worn path and was just about to
diverge from it onto a less traveled one when he saw someone up ahead.
Tavia? His heart skipped a beat. He felt like a weryling all over
again. Fresh eyed and hopelessly taken with his dragon...yet, this
'dragon' had long legs that reached from here to there.

As he drew nearer he saw that it was another woman. Also beautiful. He
returned her wave and smile. He could tell she'd been running by the
sweat that stained her clothing. She was also out of breath. That
would not do.

"Hello," he said, digging into the pack at his side for a bottle of
water. "I wouldn't dare pass you by without offering you something to
drink," he said holding out the tattered bottle.

"I'm C'thel. It's nice to meet you...?"

Meledei didn't carry a bottle when she ran. It always got in the way
and dragged her down so she usually just waited til she got back to
the Weyr. However, someone was there and offering water so it made no
sense to turn it down! SHe took the proffered bottle with a grin and
a "thanks!" and tipped her head back to take a long pull. C'thel's
response took a moment in coming because of it, but after a long drink
and a satisfied 'aaahhh', Meledei answered, "I'm Meledei. Nice to meet
you." Then she offered her hand in a friendly gesture.

He was sure he had heard the name before. There weren't many riders
that he knew by name. Most were known by their dragon or by their
feats during thread. He could tell you who saved a rider from imminent
death or who was the dragon who caught a gold, but that was it. He
wasn't a stickler for names. If they didn't effect him directly he
chose to forget them. It was a nasty habit.

C'thel shook the woman's hand, smiling softly. "Do you run every
morning?" he asked. He continued to walk so that it wouldn't seem like
he was interrogating her. Plus, it made him feel less nervous.

"Not every morning, but at least ever _other_ morning. Except rest
days. I don't ever run on rest days. They are for resting!" Meledei
grinned and took one last draw from the water before offering it back.
"Thanks for the water. I appreciate it."

"No problem." He said, taking back the bottle. He took a swig from it
himself before stashing it away in his pack.

"I can't say I enjoy exercising outside of wing drills. They are a
workout in and of themselves. Especially for Aloreth. He hates them."

While he walked he racked his mind. It was far too early in the
morning to think intelligibly, but soon he remembered that Meledei was
the rider of gold Elleth. He felt like an idiot. Everyone knew the
gold riders. They were like queens in the place. Like he said, it was
far too early.

"How about Elleth?" he asked, casting a sidelong glance at Meledei.

"She's fine. She does the drills and knows her duty, but she does
prefer not to have to do drills." Meledei admits with a grin. "And I
kind of like running. It helps settle my mind, soothes it sometimes."
She reached back and untied her hair, letting it fall down her back.
She was done running, no need to have it up. "My dragon particularly
likes to play ball when not busy with other things."

C'thel watched Meledei release her hair. As it flowed down it caught
the light and seemed to shine almost as brightly as her eyes. She was
quite pretty.

"Young dragons are so enthusiastic. Aloreth has calmed down
considerably, but he still insist on soaring around the Weyr and
playing games. I can't say I complain." He chuckled.

They were nearing the Weyr now. He looked toward the heavens and he
saw a tiny green soar across the top of the highest trees. He smiled
to himself and then turned to face Meledei.

"Perhaps one day I could join you on one of your runs? That's if you
don't mind the company."

"Oh I wouldn't mind at all." Meledei shook her head and grinned. "It
would be a lot less lonely with some company. But I warn you, I'm
always early. Though you're pretty early now so I guess you might be
used to that."

"Haha. No, I don't mind. I'm usually up early most days, especially if
Aloreth needs something or I get tired of lazing around." C'thel
readjusted his pack on his back and smiled widely. He didn't
necessarily want to return to the Weyr, but he couldn't put off his
duties much longer.

"I'll see you around." He had to tend to Aloreth's hide and he knew
the blue wouldn't let him breathe until he finished his promise. With
a nod of his head, he darted back inside the Weyr feeling more
refreshed after his walk than ever before.
