Cardella

She plucked a bit glumly at the covers on her bed. Everyone else
seemed so excited about today's restday, but not Cardella. Everyone
she knew seemed to have plans, but she didn't. Perhaps she could beg
the kitchen staff to let her spend the day in the kitchens just so she
didn't have to sit around and pretend that she was having a good time
when she, in fact, was not.

}:We could take a walk and you could watch me fly:{ Awenth told her
lifemate sleepily. **You know you're not supposed to fly unsupervised
yet.** Awenth huffed her answer to that and tucked her head back over
her forelegs. Cardella sighed, wondering what she _should_ do with
herself all day.

K'ale peeked his head around the corner. "Hey Cardella, I'm off..." he
started but she looked so forlorn he stopped and came fully into the
room.  "Are you ok?" he asked. "I thought everything was patched up
with J'nev...what's going on?"

She looked up quickly and forced a smile on her face. "Oh, yeah, no,
everything's fine. Really. J'nev and I are fine." She tried to make
herself sound believable, but she wasn't sure she had succeeded.

}:Why not spend time with him. He makes you happy:{ Awenth told her
sleepily. }:Then I can sleep all day.:{ She sighed happily.

"I hope you have a great day today. Awenth and I are going to catch up
on some reading, I think." She kept the forced smile on her face, not
wishing to ruin anyone else's spirits today.

"I'm off to visit with Dalora if D'ale hasn't taken her off
somewhere." he grinned. "You're welcome to come along if you want."

"I wouldn't want to intrude on your day with your family," she replied
as she plucked at her bedspread.

"What? Visiting with a 3 turn old?" he chuckled. "Not like were going
to have a deep discussion about the significance of the dawn sisters."
he looked at her expression, "Come on it will be entertaining at the
very least and Halgalla always has good treats."

"You're sure I won't be in the way? I mean, Awenth and I can just hang
out by ourselves today. I'm sure we'll find something to do." She
glanced over to her green who was already resting and she knew
_exactly_ what Awenth wanted to do all day.

"Silly bug," he chuckled and reached down to grab her wrist to pull
her up. "I wouldn't ask if I wasn't sure. Besides I think Awenth has
found what she wants to do."

"Alright then. If you're sure," Cardella said, rising and then
breaking into a smile. "I'd love to join you." She hugged him happily,
so pleased to know she wasn't going to be stuck spending the day by
herself after all.

He turned and lead them across the weyrbowl then up a flight of steps
to the second level finding his way easily toward the foster mother's
quarters. He grinned at his friend and knocked.

"Come in!" came the shout from the other side of the door.  "Ah, hello
there, Kale!" Halgalla said as the door opened. "And hello...?"  She
looked at him for a name.

He looked a bit startled. "Oh! This is Cardella, Cardella this is
Halgalla. I'm sorry," he said as he walked past her into the room.
"Where's Dalora?" he said looking around for the little girl.

"Hello. It's nice to meet you," Cardella said, feeling a bit shy. She
watched K'ale just walk into the room, but she didn't feel as
comfortable doing the same. She smiled at Halgalla and finally
entered, though she hung back by the door, still feeling like an
intruder.

"Hello sweetie, so when are you coming back to us in the kitchens?
You're well missed there, let me tell you."  The plump woman smaled at
the shy girl and indicated she should have  a seat.  She rumaged
around to find the strapping boy a few treats.  "G'wen not with you
today?"

Cardella nodded and murmured her thanks for the compliment, before
taking the pro-offered seat. She shook her head when Halgalla asked
about G'wen. "I haven't seen him all morning," she replied, not even
sure what he was up to for the day.

A squeal from the other room told everyone that K'ale had found his
little sister. Soon he was back out in the main room grinning at both
women with the cute dark haired and blue eyed imp staring at Cardella
as he carried her across the room.

Cardella perked up immediately as she turned to smile at the little
girl. Her heart actually skipped a beat at the sight of K'ale with the
child in his arms. He looked...right...somehow. Shaking off the notion
quickly, she said, "She's adorable." Then turning to the child, she
side, "Hi Dalora, my name is Cardella."

To K'ale's surprise Dalora leaned toward Cardella and opened her arms.
"She want's to go to you" he chuckled. "That's unusual."

Cardella was surprised at first. But then with a smile lighting up her
face, she reached out and took Dalora into her arms, easily shifting
her to her hip. "Hello there. Aren't you a sweet?" She was running her
hands easily over the young child's hair, pleased when Dalora gave her
a hug. Her eyes shining happily, Cardella looked up at K'ale. She felt
good, almost like she could belong to this family.

D'ale let her go to Cardella and grinned. Chucking Dalora under her
chin as she started to explore Cardella's clothing.  He turned to
Halgalla. "Got anything to eat?" he asked with a smile and a hug for
the foster mother.

"And when don't I?" she teased him, ruffling his hair as she brought
out some treats she had made ealier for her fosterlings.  "Make sure
you get some to G'wen..he's so thin these days."

"If I don't eat it all first!" He broke of a piece of the biscuit and
reached out to Dalora who obliging opened her mouth.

Cardella enjoyed the banter. It felt like she was surrounded by a
family again. It felt good to be included once more. She smiled up at
both of them, knowing this would be a great day after all.
