Description: The weyrlings go explore possible new weyrs, but a little rock gets in the way
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 1, day 16 of Turn 6
Cardella was literally bouncing on her heels as she waited for her
best pals to join her. She kept checking both directions, hoping they
were walking her way. She'd hardly been able to sleep the night before
as she'd been so eager for this day to begin. By the end of today,
they'd each be one step closer to having a place of their own. After
living with the candidates and then the weyrlings since her arrival,
Cardella couldn't _wait_ to have some time all to herself. In fact,
most all of her life, she'd never had her very _own_ place. Though the
butterflies were dancing in her stomach at the thought, they couldn't
take away from her excitement. Now, if only G'wen and K'ale would
hurry up so they could get started!
G'wen had to giggle as he walked up, when he saw Cardella. She looked
much like the dragonets at their first flight just the other sevenday
ago. "I'm assuming you're excited? Or have you forgotten to use the
toilets?" he teased, giving her a quick hug.
She hugged him back with a playful swat. "You _know_ I'm just excited!
Have you seen K'ale? I was hoping we could all go weyr hunting
together!"
"Yeah, he was in the barracks, I think he had to put something away or
do a quick thing for Ima. He should be here anytime. It's not like
he's late or anything..." he put in slyly, as Cardella was early.
She swatted at him again, "So, I'm a _bit_ early, so what! The early
beast gets the best meal!"
K'ale came around the corner with a rolled hide in his hand. "Look
what I've got." he said with a smile to his two friends. "I went to
that girl on the headwoman's staff, you know... the one I was talking
to at dinner the other night?" he waggled his eyebrows. She had been
very friendly. He planned to look her up when his training had
progressed and Imalkyth was old enough to understand.
He had a list in his hand and locations of all the vacant weyrs. He
laid it on a table and unrolled it.
G'wen looked agast at the choices. "Are_any_of them worth the bother?
They're all so high up...we'll be using our dragons all the bloody
time to get down to the kitchen and for baths and all that."
Cardella looked at the lists also. "Well, at least it will be a
private space. Maybe if we're lucky we can find three close together
so at least we won't be far from each other."
"Hmm...that area there," G'wen pointed to a small space with a lot of
empty weyrs. "That's a no go..my da and partner live in that one.
Too bloody close to have any fun." He looked closer at the map. "That
area there are a lot of green and blue riders...lots of good parties
there!" At least that's what S'vin and F'neb had told him. Not that
he'd been brave enough in the past to present himself to any parties
like that.
K'ale kind of liked G'wen's suggestion near the parties, but Imalkyth
would soon be too big for some of those smaller weyrs. He leaned in
and right above where G'wen was pointing was another bit larger weyr.
"Oh," he said pointing at the next one over. It was a double weyr.
Then his face fell. "No that wouldn't work." he said. "But I could
take this one, and these two right below could work for you guys."
"That all sounds pretty good," Cardella replied. "Do you think we can
actually get up there to see them?" She'd enjoy living near her
closest friends. "Is there any passageways connected the weyrs so
we'll be able to visit each other even when our dragons are _not_ with
us?"
"Yes," said K'ale "there has to be, see the storage and these staff
quarters? There has to be a way for them to get up there." he smiled
at the other two. "We'll just have to find it. Want to go explore
them?"
"Oh yes, S'vin could tell us a tale or two about those storage rooms."
G'wen grinned, thinking of the trysts that happened in those rooms.
He turned to begin the long walk. "You two coming too?"
Cardella quickly fell into step in the middle of her two best mates.
Her arms sliding around their waists without nary a thought on the
matter. "It looks like we've got quite a bit of climbing to do to get
up to those weyrs, so we'd better get a move on unless we want to
_still_ be climbing far into the night." She was grinning at her own
little stab of humor.
"We could have a race to the top..." G'wen said, and darted up the
first flight of stairs ahead of the other two. Being small was his
excuse to get a jump on K'ale.
K'ale slipped his own arm around Cardella's shoulders then G'wen took
off. He just chuckled and watched him go shaking his head. Then he
suddenly realized his arm was still around Cardella. He awkwardly
dropped it "We'll we should probably at least _try_ and keep up," he
said with a smile.
She chuckled. "I'll beat you!" She declared looking at him with a wink
before darting off to show K'ale that even though she was small, she
_could_ use her legs if she wanted to. There was no way she'd out run
him, but it was fun to try, even for a moment.
He chuckled an trotted after the other two, not even trying to make it
any kind of competition. Soon they were at one of the upper levels and
walking toward an empty weyr.
"Shards, I wish one of us had thought to bring a glow, or two," G'wen
said as he looked down the dark passageway. "Now I know why S'vin had
all his trusses up here."
It _was_ darker than she'd expected. Almost without thinking, Cardella
found herself moving closer to the two boys, just in case there was
something strange hiding in the shadows. "Maybe we can find one tucked
in a nook somewhere? If someone left a good one behind, that is?" She
wasn't so sure herself. How would they see the weyrs at all in this
dark?
K'ale came up behind them "Here you go." He said, tossing a glow to
each of them. He'd had them in his pocket knowing they'd probably be
coming up here. "Right over there." The young brown rider pointed
toward a near door. Then reached around Cardella to pull it open.
Once he'd opened the door they had plenty of light though it was
fading slowly. The curtains had been swept back and the space was
empty save for the bed and a dragon couch. "Oh," he said with a smile.
"This would be big enough for Neath. I'll bet it was a blue riders
before."
"Yeah, could be," G'wen said as he walked over to look. "Provided she
doesn't grow much more." He went over to eye the bed, giving it a
kick. "At least that's big enough!" he joked. The thing could have
fit him in it three times over. "Wonder what's it's going to be like,
living on our own?"
Cardella followed and looked around the space. It seemed big to her
after having shared living spaces for most of her life. In fact, the
more she thought about it, the more she actually _wasn't_ so sure she
wanted a weyr of her own. It seemed so _alone_ in here. Even when
she'd been at the Bakercrafthall or back home at her family's hold,
she hadn't ever had a space like this all to herself, without someone
either sharing with her or just a few paces away beside her.
}:I'll be with you. You won't be alone.:{ That voice in her head made
her smile. In fact, Cardella realized she would never, ever, really be
alone again with Awenth to share her life with her.
G'wen smiled at her and almost said something before turning to K'ale
and saying, "well, should we go look at that big weyr for you and Ima?
Car and I can always find a right sized one for us and our beasties,
it's you fella that needs all the room." At only 3 months, G'wen was
pretty sure that K'ale's brown was going to turn out to be an enormous
one. He'd need all the room he could get.
"Yeah" he said looking at the hide. "It should be the next one down
the corridor to the left." He led the way out the door with his glow.
When they got inside he realized that while the couch was much larger
the living area was about the same as the one they'd looked at for
G'wen. "This might work," he said. "What do you think?"
"Looks good! I'm sure you'll get a bigger place when you become
wingsecond though, right?" the smaller boy teased him. "You want to
look at...this one?" he asked Cardella, pointing to the empty weyr
snuggled right between the two they had picked.
She looked over to see where G'wen was pointing. "That one would be
perfect and we'd be all really close together!" She _would_ like
knowing her friends were right nearby. "I think you and Imalkyth would
fit in here, and if we all get to choose these ones, then I'd have my
two best friends with me!" She was anxious to see the weyr G'wen had
indicated, "Ready to check out my possible weyr?"

"You bet!" he smiled. "Lead on." K'ale grinned at G'wen and then
Cardella, his two best friends. "This is gonna be great!"
She smiled as she looked over her shoulder and moved ahead. In her
eagerness, Cardella missed the stone that was in her path. By the time
her foot connected with it and slid out from under her, it was too
late. She cried out as she felt her ankle twist out from under her.
"Whoah, Car! What happened?" Immediately G'wen was at her side,
concern colouring his face.
She tried to silence the slight whimper that escaped her lips as she
placed her foot back down. She could feel a sharp pain shooting up her
ankle. "I think I stepped on a rock," she mumbled, wishing she could
just cry right then and there. She wasn't even going to get to see
_her_ weyr now. Not at this rate!
"We can't possibly see it in this light." K'ale bent over and picked
her up. The small whimper hadn't escaped his notice either. He kicked
the door out of the way into her new weyr and placed her on the bed.
"Hope it's comfortable," he said with a chuckle.
Before she could muster up any kind of protest, she'd been swept up
into K'ale's arms and found herself planted on the bed in the empty
weyr. She did manage to look around and notice it was rather dusty, as
though it hadn't been used in quite some time, but otherwise it looked
just fine for her and Awenth to share.
"Thank you," she said, looking up to the boys. "I'm sure it just
twisted my ankle a bit. It'll be just fine in a moment," though she
could still feel it throbbing, she didn't want to make too much of a
fuss. "At least the weyr seems nice,"
G'wen jumped on the bed with her, raising all sorts of dust.
Coughing, he said, "sorry! Maybe K'ale and I..or just K'ale...can
carry you down a bit. I think a friend of mine's weyr isn't far off, maybe he can take a look at your ankle."
Cardella coughed at the dust G'wen stirred up, moving her hand in
front of her face to try and clear it away. "I don't want to bother
anyone. I'm sure I could just walk back down the way we came up." She
scooted forward and pressed her feet to the floor. Hissing the moment
she put her weight on her ankle. "It's not broken or anything," she
said through gritted teeth.
G'wen reached out to ask Neath to ask Awenth about Cardella's
condition, but the green was sound asleep. Wishing he had his
father's green flit or T'be's bronze, he instead looked at Cardella
and said, "how about K'ale and I link our arms and you can sit on them
and take a lot of the strain off your leg. How's that sound?"
K'ale knelt down next to her and picked up her leg gingerly. He eased
off her boot and didn't like what he saw. **Can you see if D'ale is
available to come get Cardella? I think she's injured her foot and
needs to get to the infirmary.** He sent along a picture of where they
were, a moment passed before he hear dragon laughter in his mind.
}:Torerath's comes, his is laughing.:{
"D'ale is coming," he said. "He'll take you down to the infirmary."
K'ale just shook his head. "Nice way to get out of cleaning this
place," he said with a grin.
