T'bel sighed, and walked faster to his friend's weyr. Even though lovely Cardella had Impressed, and according to his weyrmate's child, had gotten herself a strong willed little green, he still couldn't get the look on her face out of his mind. That trusting, in love look that naive young hold girls had when hey first came to the Weyr, before some jerk, usually one on a bronze back, had destroyed it from them. That girl was too sweet, and too pretty to be ruined by the likes of J'nev. He shuddered, wondering for the hundreth time how a man like D'nev could sire a beautiful girl like Teseada and then a twisted little monster like J'nev.

When he reached Aileyan's door he knocked, and then knocked louder just in case she hadn't heard. In the back of his mind, he told himself to calm down, that Cardella was 'safe' right now, what with having a dragonet to care for. Not that he wouldn't put it past J'nev to try some evil plot just at this vunerable time. That thought now firmly in mind, he knocked even harder.

"Help yourself in!" Aileyan called through the door. She was in all over the oil she was rubbing into Timor's hide. The flit didn't like the treatment and squirmed, the oil ended up on her.

"Oh your bad boy!" T'bel exclaimed as he saw the results of Timor's squirming. He grinned at his friend and handed her a cloth that was laying over the couch. "Here, you look like you need this. So how are you?"

"Thanks," Aileyan replied with wry smile. The brown flit took the oportunity when her attention was divided and popped /between/. "Don't come complaining me when your hide is dry and patchy, you coward!" she yelled to the refilling vacuum. She sighed and smiled at T'bel. "What brings you here?"

"Well," he said, sitting on the edge of her couch, "you know of a girl named Cardella? She just Impressed, from a small Hold I believe."

"I know who she is, although I've never talked with her," Aileyan replied. She was wiping the oil off from herself.

"Do you know she's 'dating' J'nev?"

"No, I didn't. Poor Cardella," Aileyan replied.

T'bel nodded and sighed. "The thing is...I talked with her a bit just the day before the hatching, about how certain bronze riders are and how they treat the girls around here. And I think it_may_have occurred to her that J'nev could possibly be the slimeball you and I know he is. And I also asked her to look you up, has she?"

"She hasn't yet, but she probably very busy with her Hatchling. And J'nev is a slimeball," her eyes flashed with anger.

"Yeah, I heard he caught your girl. Bad luck, that." He shuddered at just the thought of having to wake up next to that boy. "You don't think he would try anything with Cardella now, do you? Y'know, something to hurt her and her lifemate?"

"Like breaking the weyrling ban?" Aileyan sounded incredulous. "He wouldn't dare, he's too fresh out of his own weyrlinghood."

T'bel nodded. "That's what I keep telling myself." He sighed heavily and drummed his fingers on the couch. "If you ever get a free moment, can you go talk to that girl? I'll clue my weyrmate's boy to what sort J'nev is too, so he can keep an eye on her and let one of us know if he_does_try anything."

"Of course I talk with her," Aileyan promised. "It's not just J'nev, there are other bronzeriders like him too," she continued.

"True, they're a bastardly bunch, eh? Nothing like us green riders!"

"Well, some are better than the others," Aileyan said with a small smile.

"And those would be called the brown riders." T'bel, for one, was none too impressed with any bronze rider. They could all go /between/ for all that he cared.

Aileyan giggled. "We could do very well without them," she agreed. Although, in truth, she probably couldn't... she had hard time keeping away from certain wingleader.

He grinned. It was nice to hear her laugh. "So, you eaten dinner yet? I was going to join my weyrmate if you want to come along."

"I haven't eaten yet. I had pet to take care," Aileyan replied with a roll of her eyes. "If he doesn't mind me joining..." she added uncertainly.

"G'waren mind a pretty girl joining us? Come on girl, you've been too long without any fun company." He lobbed an arm around her shoulders, steering her to the door.

"All right, if you insist," the younger greenrider laughed.
