Why I'm Not Enough

Writers: Emma, Paula
Date Posted: 29th November 2010

Characters: Aileyan, Demalia
Description: Aileyan and Demalia spend a girls night talking.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 11, day 16 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: U'kaiah

"Fancy a girls night?" Demalia asked of her friend as she passed her in the
hallways. "I laid my hands on some of the good cookies..." she teased.

"I could use some friendly, uncomplicated company," Aileyan replied. Her
smile was sad one and strain of broking up with U'kaiah was seen in her
eyes.

"Need to talk about it?" Demalia could see something wasn't quite right.
Aileyan just nodded worlessly.

"My weyr in half a candlemark?"

Aileyan nodded again. "I bring something to drink," she promised.

It didn't take long, Demalia had the cookies out on a plate and she had
found some glasses and set them out on a low table in her weyr.
Aileyan had a bottle of wine but also skin of juice. She wasn't much of a
drinker and mixing wine with juice was safer to her. Last thing she wanted
was end up hangover next morning.

Demalia passed her a glass. "Is it U'kaiah?"

"Oh, yes it is," Aileyan sighed. "I thought best to broke it off with him."

"How come?" Of course she knew about U'kaiah and his reputation, but Aileyan
had seemed so happy.

"It was getting too dangerous, too involved. Sooner or later it would had
affected our wing performances. I certainly know I was being absentminded,"
Aileyan tried to reason it out.

"Just that?" There had to be more. Had U'kaiah taken up with someone else?
If that was the case it was likely to break someone's heart, and it wouldn't
be his.

"Well, yes," Aileyan admitted and hung her head. She knew she was terribly
hold-bound for not being able to accept it.

"It's just I heard a rumour about him and someone else, but I thought it
couldn't be true. I though someone was rehashing old gossip."

"No, it's not that. I don't think he could settle for just one girl even if
he tried. I thought it was better to end it before I broke my heart over
him," Aileyan said and munched the cookies.

"Oh..." Demalia move closer, holding her arms out for a hug, sometimes words
just couldn't do it. And she could see how much her friend was hurting over
this.

"We had such great time together. Why I wasn't enough?" she complained.

"He obviously can't see what is under his nose."

"No, he can only see what's under his..." Aileyan wiggled her eyebrowns
suggestively.

"That's men for you, the head that does their thinking is not necessarily
the one with the brain."

"Yeah," Aileyan agreed with a grunt and poured them wine. "He's gorgeous,
though," she added wistfully.

"Well if he has any sense at all he'll realise what he's done." Aileyan was
gorgeous too, and she'd been through enough. She deserved a really good man
who would take care of her and look after her.

"What I'm going to do now," Aileyan asked, half rhetorically.

"Well apart from helping me with these cookies, you could go and give your
love to someone who deserves it. Like that cute little boy of yours."

"A good idea," Aileyan agreed. "And he loves back without any conditions."
Thank Faranth for her son.

"Want to save him one of these?" suggested Demalia.

"Maybe I should," she said and watched the plate. The number of cookies were
dwindling alarmingly.

"I bet he'll enjoy it."

"I know he will. He's got a sweet tooth, gotten from me no doupt," Aileyan
chuckled.

"Well the way he runs about he'll work it off." The little ones Demalia had
seen barely seemed to stop moving unless they were sleeping.

"That's so true," Aileyan laughed.

"At least I got you laughing again!"

"You did. Isn't that what the friends are for?"

"Exactly."
