Description: N'mor comforts a upset friend after her green's Flight
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 4 of Turn 5
Tigrid sat down, stunned. It wasn't like she didn't know what was suppost to have happened or that she had been in any way unprepared for it but,
even so, when her green had screamed her intentions and had risen in
Flight, the girl had been caught...well, not ready, to be honest. And
what had happened next....she shuddered, thinking about it. Not that it
had hurt or that she had felt violated. Quite the opposite.
And there lay the problem.
She was a Hold girl, a good girl. But good girls didn't act like that.
Or feel like that. She took a gulp of the white wine in front of her,
emptying half the glass. Ah well, if any of the Weyr folk around her
thought she might reacting a bit extreme, then to Faranth with the lot
of them.
"Hi, Tigrid, what's up?" N'mor asked. She had been in one of the weyrling classes when he had been Weyrling Wing's assistant.
"Uh? Oh!" She blushed mightily when she saw the young man. She always had a bit of a crush on him when she was a Weyrling. "I..nothing...nothing's up. Just the usual. How are you?" Shards,
her voice sounded forced, even to her.
"I'm fine, settling into the fighting wing," N'mor replied and slipped into a chair next to hers. "Pardon me for saying so, but you don't look that well, you look kind of...skittish." He had trouble finding a suitable word to describe her. Spooked was first to come to his mind but it was perhaps bit too strong.
"Ah well, you know how it is." She waved her hand around, trying to think **how what is?* She laughed but instantly wished she could have taken it back. It had sounded even more fake than her airy tone.
"How is what?" N'mor asked.
Oh shards, he was seeing right through her act! What now? She gave him a sheepish look and lifted the wine bottle. "Would you like a glass?"
"Sure, why not," N'mor replied and handed his empty one out.
She pored him a glass, only spilling a bit onto the table. For good measure she topped her own glass up. Taking a couple of swallows like it was klah, she glanced nervously at him. Why, of all the times, did he have to sit next to her_now?_He was so sharding cute.
Fiddling with her thumb nail, she asked, "so how's your fighting wing? Mine's nice, there's lots of girls in it, they've been helping me out." Her words came out in a rush.
"It's all right after they stopped laughing," N'mor shrugged. He watched her drinking with some concern.
"Stopped laughing? Why were they laughing?" As she talked she re-filled her glass, feeling the knot in her chest loosen with each swallow.
"You didn't hear about the joke the played on me? The greenrider in closet- classic? Or my less than a mature reaction to it?" N'mor was surprised, he had thought that _everyone_ in the weyr had heard, and laughed at him. Well, obviously it hadn't been that wide spread after all.
"Oh, that old trick." She shrugged her shoulders. "A couple of boys in my wing got it as well. One of 'em cried all night, he was so upset. They do that sort of stuff all the time. Did you get them back?"
"Not really," N'mor said.
"And why not?" That knot in her chest gone, she was beginning to
relax.
"It's hard to explain. Maybe I don't want to lower myself in their level," N'mor shrugged.
He was so cute. And he was classy and brave and...shards, what was wrong with her? She racked her brains, trying to think of the Flight lectures that she had endured in Weyrling and Candidate class. And endured was the right word for it. It was a wonder her face hadn't melted, as red hot as it had been through all those talks. Maybe someone had said once there were lingering 'urges.' She blushed, just thinking about it. And glanced back at him, blushing even more.
"I...uh," was all she could think of to say. Brillant, he probably thought she was a half-wit now.
"Tigrid?" N'mor asked, wondering how much had she drunken already. He hadn't even touched his glass.
"I've just had a Flight, alright? Don't look at me like that." The last
thing she wanted was concern over her drinking. Outside_this_she never
drank. Shards, she must sound like a complete wherry. "N'mor, I'm
sorry, I don't know what's come over me."
"Lingering dragon lust?" N'mor guessed. Shards, Ked had chased enough greens he knew how it felt. "Want to take a walk outside," he suggested.
"Some fresh air would be nice," she said. And she could get away from the
table guests next to them that had looked over and giggled at her
outburst.
"Let's go then," N'mor said and offered her his arm like a gallant bronzerider should. Besides, his mother had taught him
good manners.
What a gentleman, so different than the lout that had caught her green._That_man had been close to her father's age, and had tried to get her to stick around for seconds. Sh shuddered a bit, thinking about the whole distasteful experience. She gratefully took his arm and let him lead her outside. The sea was crashing in the background, and the humid air felt good on the girl's face.
"Do you swim at all?"
"Sure I do. Not as well as those who have been born here, but at least I don't drown," N'mor answered with a grin.
"Care to go for one now?" She smiled at him.
"I'm not prepared for it, but why not? If you don't mind me swimming in undershorts," N'mor replied.
"I've just gone through a Flight. I don't think seeing you in your
undershorts would be any more of an embarresment. In fact, after the
slime that caught my green, it'd be most welcome." Let him make of that
what he wished.
Tigrid smiled and led him down to the ocean. Lifting her shirt off and kicking her skirt to one side, she ran for the water. Before her green had flown she had been about to go to the beach and so had her swimming clothes on underneath.
Her words made N'mor suddenly very nervous and a bit excited. She ran off
to the water before he could figure out anything to say, at least
anything that would sound smart. He didn't hesitate pulling his clothes
off, thanking his mom for teaching him to wear clean underwear
everyday. He run after her and dowe into the water.
"See, no problem!" she said as he swam up to her. Quite the opposite. If
any of her friends would have told her earlier that she'd see N'mor in
his shorts she wouldn't have believed them. But here he was, looking a
bit nervous. He was cute when he looked like that. Oh, shard it! She
reached out and kissed him.
N'mor was so startled that he nearly swallowed mouthful of seawater.
He answered her kiss, wrapping his arms around her. Shells, he had to do something right!
She answered in full, allowing that one innocent kiss to deepen. She
wrapped her legs around his hips, letting him do the standing for both.
Giving in to her lingering Flight urges, he tugged at his shorts.
N'mor nearly lost his balance when she wrapped her legs around him. He
started to carry her back towards the beach and not to trip the at same
time.
"Oh dear, sorry about that!" She pulled away and began swimming on her own. Maybe exhausting herself would be the best thing to do. And then a nice deep sleep. She had already messed up enough for one day.
"Don't be sorry," N'mor swam after her. "We could just move it to the beach," he suggested, not wanting stop now that they had gotten started. At the same time he wondered if he was pushing himself to her too much.
"Oh, okay." Maybe he wasn't pushing her away, after all. She wondered if
she was getting to forward with him. As they swam closer to shore, she
reached out and held his hand.
"I have troubles kissing and swimming at the same time," N'mor whispered and tickled her ear with his lips.
"Well, I know a quiet little cove we can go to," she teased him.
"Sounds perfect," N'mor murmured.
