Description: A young rider visits the infirmary for a little TLC
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 11, day 6 of Turn 5
Notes: Mentioned: Oria
Being in a Fighting wing was whole lot different than in Weyrling
wing. After full month of Thread fighting, N'mor found himself waiting
for healer's appointment. He kind of hoped Oria would be in duty, but
he thought he saw her wing up in the air, so it seemed unlikely. The
young bronzerider stretched his legs. He had always been small sized,
and now he seemed to be all legs and arms and clumsy elbows. At the
age of sixteen, he still hadn't gotten rid of that childish look and
people often mistook him younger than he was. Drawback of being late
bloomer.
Tavia was just finishing up changing a dressing on a recently scored
rider. His wound was beginning to heal but the pain was still
difficult to control. She dosed him with a bit of fellis after
applying the numbweed. His body relaxed from it's clench and his brown
had stopped crooning to his rider and settled down. ]:He is calm now
that his rider is no longer distressed.;{ she silently thanked her
resting lifemate as she walked out to where a patient awaited her.
"Hello there bronze rider, I am Tavia. How can we help you today?" she
smiled at the young rider.
"Hi Tavia, I'm N'mor," the lad replied. "Umh, I need something help me
sleep at nights," he sounded rather embarrassed.
She suppressed a smile. From what she remembered of her first days in
her wing she was massively exhausted by the end of her day and fell
into her furs almost comatose. "Is something keeping you awake or is
your mind just not shutting down?"
"I'm aching all over, especially legs," N'mor replied.
Tavia bit her bottom lip then asked, "How old are you N'mor?"
"Sixteen," N'mor sounded proud when he said that. He had Impressed so
young, that he had been weyrling wing for a while, waiting to reach
that magic age. Now he had reached it, it was both as good as he
thought and much worse.
She turned away slightly and waived him after her "Why don't you come
with me?" she said and led him back toward one of the more private
areas. There were several things they could try for growing pains but
she didn't want to seem condescending.
N'mor trotted obediently after her.
Tavia pointed to where he should plant himself. "So, where do you feel
most of the pains?"
"In my shins," N'mor replied. "I mean, Thread fighting is exhausting
enough without getting a god night's sleep. Sometimes it helps if I
get up and walk around a little."
She nodded, "Yes, massaging them would also help a bit. Sometimes just
pushing your toes up towards your knees also well relieve them." She
smiled. "I think you're growning again and your muscles are
complaining. How tall are you?"
"I'm not sure, five foot something?" N'mor replied uncertainly. "I've
had growth pains before, but not this bad, " he added.
She nodded it could be just a particularly fast spurt. "sometimes you
just grow faster than other times. Why don't you stand up and we'll
measure you?" she nodded and smiled.
"Yes ma'am," Nīmor said like an obidient boy and hopped to stand,
straightening his spine and pulling his shoulders back. She was very
pretty, N'mor noted, but also twice his age.
She pulled him over to the wall where the measure was laid out. "Back
against the wall please." She laughed and kicked his toes to back his
heels up. Then she reached up to put the level on top of his head.
She had to stretch to reach the top of his head. "Yep," she said as
she came back down. "You're almost two full weavers lengths tall! No
wonder you're feeling the effects! I'd say that is a major growth
spurt."
N'mor nodded, feeling both proud and shy. "Doesn't help me to sleep
though," he muttered.
"Well, there's not an instant cure but the massage or walking or just
tipping your toes up can help. If you're trying to stay asleep when it
happens then just tip your toes." then she couldn't help the crinkle
in her eyes. "of course if you have a bedmate a bit of distraction
isn't out of line either."
"Bedmate, riiiight," N'mor said sourly. "They all think I'm too young
or have wrong gender."
"Seriously?" she said looking at him critically "I wouldn't think
you'd have a problem." she said. Sure he was young but he had nice
eyes.
"Male greenriders seem to see me attaractive," N'mor was blushing now.
"Well thats not _your_ fault" she said. She could see he was
embarrassed by the line of conversation and she wasn't one to tease.
She'd had enough of that as a young rider herself. "I think our best
course is to make sure you massage your legs or flex when you feel it
happening. It's nothing that a little time won't fix."
"All right, thank you," N'mor nodded.
She smiled and then sighed. "Alright, take this" she said handing him
a packet of herbs "It's verbena and meadowsweet. Make some tea with it
before you go to sleep. It may help you sleep and a bit with the pain
but I can't promise anything." She seriously doubted it would do much
more than take the edge off but perhaps that was all he needed.
"Thank's" N'mor grinned at her.
