Description: U'kaiah and Aileyan take their sons out for a picnic
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 8, day 28 of Turn 5
"Timor! It's not for you!" Aileyan scolded and shooed her flit off from
the picnic basket. "It's for the picnic", she put the cover back on. The
brown flew to perch on her shoulder. "Getting along with us this time?"
she petted him and went to check that Ravyan was warmly clothed. She
looked the bundled up little toddler and wondered if she had over-dressed
him. Well, one could always take off the first layer.
She was expecting U'kaiah and his son to come to pick them up. She had
promised to bring the food. "Timor!" the flit had again snucked off the
examine the basket.
"Expecting someone else?" the bronzerider's voice asked from the door.
The flit gave a frightened chirrup and flew off. "Hi, U'kaiah. Now you
scared off my firelizard," she said, her voice laughing.
"Well, I tried knocking, but it seems you have other men in your life
that demand more of your attention." He pushed the door open a little
further and ushered in his mop-headed son. "Kaiafel, do you remember my
friend Aileyan?"
"Hi," he said with a smile that bore little resemblance to U'kaiah's
cocky grin.
"I was distracted by thieving firelizards," Aileyan explained. "You
probably remember Kaiafel, do you, Ravyan?" The little boy studied the
older one with serious expression.
"Hello," Kaiafel said with a wave to the toddler. He remembered playing
on the beach with the little boy a while back. "Don't worry. Da
wouldn't let me bring Kal this time."
"I thought it was better," the bronzerider said, resting his hands on
his son's shoulders.
"That's a relief," Aileyan murmured. Frankly, she was tad bit frightened
by big canines. "Could you carry this?" she asked and offered the basket
for U'kaiah.
"Of course." He took the basket from her hand and gestured that she
should lead the way to the ledge. "Kalamath is on his way. He just
wanted to catch a few more rays before we left."
"And he's drying off," Kaiafel added. "I just helped my Da wash him.
He's really big so I help sometimes."
"That's lovely. Ravyan is too small to help me, although he certainly
loves to splash in the water when I wash mine," Aileyan replied and
picked up her son.
"I'm good at washing dragons. And oiling them too. I can help!" There
was nothing Kaiafel loved better, aside from stealing bubblies, than
spending time around dragons.
"We're not washing dragons now, son," U'kaiah laughed, giving her an
apologetic smile. He set the basket down long enough to give the boy a
boost up. "Up on Kalamath, now." Turning back to the greenrider he
asked, "Do you want me to hold him while you get on?"
"Certainly," Aileyan replied and handed him Ravyan without hesitation.
That's how comfortable she was feeling around him, for she would have
hesitated if it had been someone else. She deftly climbed up to
Kjarliheth's back.
"He's getting to be a rather heavy little lad." The bronzerider held
him up for her to secure as she obviously knew best before he tied the
basket to Kalamath's harness. "Where are we going then? You pick."
"I know this nice little beach near Opal Cove," Aileyan said and
attached her son to the straps.
"We'll follow you ladies, then," U'kaiah nodded before jumping up onto
Kalamath's neck in front of his son.
Aileyan nodded, although she wasn't sure if U'kaiah saw the gesture. She
told Kjarliheth the coordinates and asked her to relay them to Kalamath.
The green launched from the ledge.
Kalamath, with his lifemate and Kaiafel on his back, leapt into the sky
after her, murmuring to his rider, }:She's very pretty, isn't she.:{
**You're a terrible flirt, you know,** his rider chuckled.
}:Why not? You like her rider too.:{
U'kaiah had to admit that much was true as they followed the pair
/between/.
Kjarliheth re-appeared over the beach. Aileyan checked her son, but he
was experienced dragon-passager and the /between/ didn't bother him at
all.
He was more interested in scenery. "Sip, sip!" he cried, pointing some
sails at the sea (he couldn't pronounce the sh yet.)
"Yes, those are ships," Aileyan replied and gestured them to land.
U'kaiah helped Kaiafel down before offering to take the toddler once
again so she could dismount easily. "Kaiafel's excited. He saw
fish jumping out in the cove."
"That's lovely," Aileyan just commented. She again handed her son to the
bronzerider, so she would get down herself. After that, it was time to
remove the outer layer of Ravyan's clothes. She had overdressed him, the
little boy was red-faced and sweaty.
The bronzerider and his son both stripped off their weyrhide jackets
before he untied the basket and blanket. The later he handed to
Kaiafel. "Go pick us a good spot, son."
Ravyan tottered to the water as soon as he was released from excess
clothes.
Aileyan kept an eye on him, although the boy already knew how to swim.
Better than she did, actually.
"Shall we?" U'kaiah asked, reaching for her hand has he carried the
basket in the other.
Aileyan nodded and gave her hand.
