"How that woman ever impressed is beyond me. That a gold choose her is rather frightening." Tavia fumed as she made her way from the healers, her shift finally over.
B'ram had heard the frustrated voice behind him and turned to see who it might be. "Having a hard time of thing's, greenrider?"
"More like a senseless Weyrwoman. I ended up working late and have drills again, I don't dare go back to my weyr or I'll fall asleep." She replied, not really care who she was talking to. He wasn't a bronzerider so he wouldn't be currying favor with the blond.
"Giving her wingriders a hard time of it, is she?" B'ram asked with a shake of his head. How that woman ever impressed a gold...
"Just her greenriders, we're not up to what she wants, not like we haven't flown fall before."
B'ram snorted. "That doesn't surprise me. She always seem to think that golds were better than any other dragon at everything. Not to mention her firm belief in the superiority of all goldriders."
"You sound like you know her personally. Are you from Dragonsfall?" she realized she'd never seen him before.
"No, from Far Island. She and I were both born and raised there. We kind of... Well we had the same circle of friends growing up, if you can believe that."
"Was she always this irresponsible?" Tavia asked. "Or is this a new development?"
He shrugged. "I would never have accused her of being irresponsible in her duty. But it seems now some thing's take president in her life." It didn't surprise him in the least to hear this whole mess started with her chasing around a bronzerider.
"I heard the rumors, is it true she was following a bronzerider to the dolphin hall?"
"Well, that's what I've heard. For a while I heard they were both trying to take over the leadership here, but I don't believe it. I doubt she has the mind for such grand scheming. It's much more likely that it was just a stupid mistake."
"Stupid is right, I've heard tails of dragons being killed because two queens rose at once."
"Well, I do know that she wouldn't have endangered her queen intentionally," the brownrider said firmly. Trae could act the proddy green at times, but he had no doubt of the love the Werywoman had for her gold. They could have been called friends once, after all.
"I doubt the goldriders who lost their queens did it intentionally, that doesn't make it any less stupid." she replied.
B'ram couldn't help but chuckle. "That is very true. I was just saying, I doubt that she would have tried some sneaky trick to become Weyrwoman. Its much more likely that she was just being, as you say, stupid."
"I never thought she would. Who'd want the misery of being senior?" she snorted.
B'ram shrugged. "I don't know. Trae's thought she was the senior queen for turns. I suppose it was only natural that her life would catch up to her ego. Hopefully she can learn to handle the responsibility that comes along with the title."
"I could say the same for some bronzeirders, thinking they'd bet he perfect Weyrleader I mean. Listen, I've got to find a way to stay awake for the next candlemark, would you like to continue this conversation in the dinning caverns, rather than the hallway?"
"I suppose I could be persuaded," the brownrider smiled. "After you?"
Tavia lead the way through the halls, "Get lost lately?" she asked. "I can't count the number of riders I've shown around, even as a weyrbrat."
The brownrider shrugged. "When I first arrived I would get turned around a bit, but now I think I can find my way around pretty well."
"Drat." Tavia replied. "Directing lost riders is fun. Crafters are even better, somehow they seem to end up on the haching ground. Only when it's empty though." She grinned. "The best part is, no one remembers me after a first meeting so they don't remember who sent them."
"I see, you have a mean streak in you," B'ram chuckled. "How _fun_. Too many women are sweet and nice, or at least try to appear that they are."
"Who me? Mean? I'm just a sweet little weyrbrat, the daughter of a crafter and a cook. How much trouble could I get in?"
"Hmmm..." B'ram said thoughtfully. "Let's see. So far I know you would talk ill of your wingleader and Weyrwoman to a perfect stranger, and you take delight in getting people lost in the Weyr. Sounds to me like a whole world of trouble."
"There is that, and you started it, I was just complaining about drills to began with." she said smugly.
"No you weren't," the brownrider said with an emphatic shake of his head, grinning because he was sure she knew it as well as he was. "You were talking about Traelyn's chances of Impressing. I remember."
"Oh look, food! Smells wonderful doesn't it." she said ignoring the observation.
B'ram nodded and folded his arms across his chest. "Oh, I see. Now you are trying to play the sweet girl with me. Do you think that's going to get you anywhere?"
"Hopefully? and I told you I am innocent, just ask my parents." In the back of her mind she heard Sawauth make a sarcastic comment to someone else, Tavia suspected the brown of the rider next to her. "Shall we get some food?"
"Your not planning to poison it or anything, are you?"
"No." She sighed. "My training forbids me to do anything of the sort. Besides, if I poisoned you you'd end up in my care anyway." she giggled as they took their seats.
"That doesn't make me feel any safer with you, you know," he smiled as he poured them both a glass of wine.
"I would never hurt an attractive brownrider, my beautiful green would never forgive me."
"Ah, but sadly, I've been hurt by beautiful greenriders before," B'ram said with a pout.
"That must have been at your old Weyr. And I'm sure she couldn't have been me, I get forgotten as soon as I leave the flight weyr, I'm just not that memorable."
"I don't believe you," the brownrider said shaking his head. "I think you are trying to trick me."
"Why would I trick you?" she asked honesty.
He grinned. "Because I think you kind of like me."
Tavia laughed, "Finally someone who gets it!" she cheered. "I was beginning to think I had _everyone_ fooled."
"Ah, but you can't fool a fooler."
"True, I'm to much of an innocent. Promise to keep my secret?"
