Vandor

Vandor

The man that stepped forward to take care of the next patient could only be described as huge. That wasn't to say he was fat - far from it. In fact, one would be hard pressed to find fat upon his body. He towered above every single person in the infirmary and gaze down from his lofty height. His full lips were stretched into a wide, warm smile and he let that smile come to rest upon a young dragonrider seeking a healer.

"Sorsha, what are you doing here? I thought chores for you here were over." His voice reverberated around the room even though he did not speak loudly. It was not a harsh sound, though, full of warmth and genuine concern for the patients he cared for.

"I'm here as a patient today, Vandor." Sorsha said with a weak smile. She'd worked with the man many a time before as her chores and extra duties usually involved either the dragonhealers or the human variety. "Chelly had been seeing me, but she's gone to Far River, so I thought maybe you might have time."

"I see, of course I have time for you." The man stepped aside and motioned for the girl to pass by him further into the infirmary and into relative privacy. With a gentle hand upon her shoulder, Vandor guided him to room, then closed the door. "You said Chelly has been seeing you. Why don't you fill me in." Vandor could have, and would, check her record, but he preferred to talk to his patients and let them tell him why they were there instead of staring at a piece of hide for five minutes in silence.

"Well," Sorsha tried to think of the important information. "Chelly put me on the tea once Ri'len and I were senior weyrlings. I'd never been on it before, and I started getting really nauseous during drills. I was okay on the ground, but I think the ups and downs and the tea was a bad mix. She tried some variations, but eventually she told me to stop taking it. Oh, and before that, my monthly stopped. I knew I wasn't pregnant because we weren't allowed because our dragons were too young. She said it could be the stress or activity. When I was on the tea it came back, but I haven't had one since I got off of it."

"So there's a possibility of pregnancy." It was important to know and they would need to find out before anything else was tried. "Before you got on the tea, were your cycles consistent or sporadic?"

"Consistent before I Impressed." Sorsha remembered she'd had one just a few days after Impression which was why she hadn't been concerned about pregnancy when they'd stopped. "But nothing after, until the tea, then it was just the once."

Vandor nodded slowly. "It's happened before. Before we do anything, though, we need to find out if you are currently with child." Vandor stood, a mountain hovering over Sorsha. "Do you have time to take a trip down to see the dolphins?"

Sorsha nodded. "Sure." Her and Ri'len had been careful since she got of the tea, but she knew it was still a possibility.

"Could. Once we have that information, we'll be able to move forward from there." Vandor led the girl out of the room, then out of the infirmary itself. There were no other patients in the infirmary. His own shift was coming to an end so...why not? "I'll escort you." He stated once they were outside. Normally he would simply send a patient off and then have her bring a report back, but that wouldn't matter since she would be his last patient of the day. "How's that arm doing?"

"Immensely better now that the cast is off." She replied with a smile as she held it up. "Another sevenday and I should be good to lift the heavy weights again with it. They've got my Blooding scheduled for the next Threadfall after."

"How long after that will you graduate?" It must have been hard to watch all her peers and even her Weyrmate graduate while she had to stay behind. Vandor thought she was a trooper though. Sorsha had more strength than he thought even she realized.

Sorsha stumbled on loose rock as they were walking and grabbed hold of Vandor's thick arm to steady herself. "Whoops, sorry. I'm such a clutz. But in answer to your question, It's probably another month. I'm hoping for less though since I'm already done with all the ground learning, and I just have to prove I know the aerials."

"That doesn't sound too bad." A month, it could have been worse. The break had been nice and clean and no complications had arisen from it. He remembered Chelly had said something about her Weyrmate, that he hovered and fretted. It made Vandor chuckle at her description of the young bronzerider acting more like a mother than a husband or Weyrmate.

"No, it's not." Sorsha replied. It could have been much much worse. "I'll be glad to graduate though."

"Just don't come back to the infirmary too soon now. Preferably not at all." There was a smile upon Vandor's face, but real concern in his tone. He enjoyed his work, but being a healer at a Weyr did have its drawbacks.
