"Congratulatios, journeyman tanner Meyshan!" Sh'dori called and pushed through the crowd to give his son a hug. The young man had just walked the tables and received his journeyman's knots and the family had arrived to the Tannercraft hall celebrate the occasion.
"Thanks, dad," Meyshan replied with a wide grin. He had inherited his father's build and mother's colours: He was broad shouldered with strawberry-blond hair and green eyes.
Seeing those eyes always made Sh'dori think of his mother, Meylia. They had had brief but passionate love-affair. Which made him ask: "Is your mother around?"
"Not yet, but she sent a word she'll be here later," Meyshan replied. His mother now lived in completely different Weyr. Which was for the best, she and Chamia, Sh'dori's current lover, had absolutely hated each other.
"I brought some of your siblings with me," Sh'dori mentioned.
The young man rolled his eyes. "You know, we could fill in any feast hall all by ourselves." He looked around. His weren't the only family member's who had were to celebrate the promotions. "Shall we go to meet them?" he asked.
Sh'dori nodded and guided him across the hall to the place where he had left rest to the family. Chadora squalled with delight and climbed up her half-brother's leg until Meyshan lifted her up to his arms. "Hello hatchling," he rubbed his nose to Chadora's cheek. For some reason, she was his favourite. He received a round of congratulations and was quite busy passing hugs and kisses for a while. Sh'dori used the opportunity and raided the serving tables, bringing a tray full of drinks for everyone.
"Did you hear about Sh'low? He is graduated now, but still in Weyrling wing," Chadora chatted, charming as only six turn old little girl could be.
"Yes, I heard. Granny's firelizard brought me a letter," Meyshan replied.
"And he didn't eat it one the way? Amazing," Sh'dori remarked with a chuckle and handed him a glass of sparkling wine. For Chadora, he gave a glass of redfruit juice. For himself he had ale.
"Let's toast to the newest crafter in our family, to journeyman Meyshan!" Sh'dori said and lifted his mug. Meyshan's happy smile was wide enough to split his face.
