If That's Okay

"Hey, let me help you with that," said the bronzerider as he came into the dining cavern. "It looks awkward for you to manage."

"Hi I'lan!" Sorsha was surprised to see the bronzerider and she couldn't help the little race of her heart. "Sure, and thanks. It is a little heavy for the one hand."

"I know the feeling, I pulled a muscle in my shoulder when I was a weyrling," I'lan said as he took the tray.

It wasn't near the same thing as a broken arm, but she didn't comment as he sat the tray down at an empty table. Since she wasn't involved in drills at the moment and helping out in the infirmary, her lunch schedule differed from Ri'len and all her other weyrlingmates now. "Do you want to eat with me?"

"If that's okay with your weyrmate? He won't object?"

"You think he'd prefer me to eat alone than with a friend?" Sorsha felt guilty, even as she said it. Ri'len probably _would_ prefer her to eat alone rather than with I'lan, but it was just him being overly protective of her.

"I didn't want to be the cause of an argument between you two," I'lan said as he put her tray down on an empty table. "Give me a moment to get some food for me, and I'll be right with you."

Sorsha watched him go. She remembered how he'd swept her off her feet when he'd first showed up to her home at Green Bend; literally. How he'd saved her when she'd hurt her leg and hadn't been able to get back to the safety of the Hold before Threadfall. How he'd visited her as she recuperated. She'd thought she was in love. When she'd gone to Willet Grove though, he hadn't visited, and she'd put her feeling for the bronzerider out of her mind as Ri'len had shown her real love and commitment. She never regretted her decision to marry Ri'len over pining away for I'lan, but she knew that deep down some feelings for her hero rider still remained even if the glamour of his dragonrider title had worn off since she'd Impressed.

The bronzerider returned with a smile. "I brought some ale," he said. "The healers haven't said not to?"

"No, they haven't." Sorsha replied with a chuckle as she took the mug. "I haven't needed fellis in quite some time. It's almost healed."

"Then I hope you like this one, I have it on good authority that it is a good brew."

Sorsha didn't have alot of experience with the different varieties of ale. All of them tasted bitter to her, but she'd always taken whatever she'd been given as she'd never gotten any when she was at her father's Hold. Bringing it gingerly to her lips she took a small sip. Bitter. "That is good, thank you."

"You don't really like it do you?"

She chuckled. "No, not really."

"You should have said," I'lan said gently. "Do you want me to get you some juice, or klah?"

"No, it's okay." She said quickly. "Stay, I don't have much time left for lunch."

"They're keeping you very busy then?" Probably keeping her mind off the thought of blooding, which in itself was scary enough, but when you thought about people you had got so close to in such a short space of time...

She shrugged, "Nothing more than normal. More relaxed probably than the other weyrlings since I have more time to get all the formations memorized."

"It'll happen for you," the bronzerider told her. "And I'll be there afterwords to congratulate you, with some fruit juice, or klah."

Sorsha chuckled softly. "Okay... and klah. No matter how thick the weyrhide jacket is, I'm always a little bit chilled after high flying."

"Klah it is," said I'lan.
