G'nir

G'nir

The bronze dragon landed to Hold's courtyard, his rider dismounting with graceful, confident moves. Curious heads peeked out from the windows, and few greetings were called out. G'nir acknowledged the greetings with a wave of his hands. He removed his helmet and jacket. He entered the hold. His first stop was his father's office. On his way, he was detained by a staff member who didn't recognize him. That someone didn't know him, the Lord's bronzerider son, offended him. It didn't improve his mood at all. Sharding Weyrleader, who forced him to transfer and accept a position much lower than his previous as Wingleader. Sharding assistant stewards, who thought they could stop him from visiting his father when he wanted to!

G'nir didn't stay in his father's office for long. It was mostly a courtesy call. He just informed him of the latest change in his life. Transfer to Dragonsfall Weyr. He was disappointed to find out his Lady mother wasn't home. She was visiting one of G'nir's sisters, who had a new baby. Another niece to add to family tree. Then he went to see the one person who was the real reason for his regular visits here. His daughter. Rinnea was delighted to see her daddy. And why not. He always brought something nice to her, and gave her his whole attention while he was here. This time G'nir brought new set of clothes for her doll and necklace of Istan pearls. Rinnea had born in Weyr, her mother had been a greenrider. The only woman, with whom G'nir had managed to form a relationship that lasted longer than few months. Unfortunately, she died after the birth. G'nir chose to bring Rinnea here, to be fostered among his kin, instead having her raised in the Weyr. He watched his daughter, when she chatted and served her imaginary klah from miniature cups. She was sweet, pretty and happy little girl with golden hair and G'nir's pale grey eyes. He congratulated again himself of his decision. Here, she was loved and protected, treated and raised as she should be, as Lord Holder's grand-daughter. If she wanted to Stand, when she came older, that was her right, as a weyrbred. But now she was a little Lady-in-growing. Her fostermother told him what had been happening since his last visit. She had started her harper-lessons, the harper complimented her singing voice. G'nir wished he could bring his son here too, but Grilec's mother wouldn't ever agreed to it. G'nir believed in woman's right to her children, that right preceded father's rights. After all, you could always question the paternity, but never the maternity.

His daughter's presence was soothing, relaxing. He found himself smiling at her childish chatter, relaxing, forgeting his worries. He found himself sipping "klah" from cup so small he could only held it between two fingers and telling her stories about her mother.

"Can I play with Nirreth?" she asked after a while.

"Of course you can. Why don't we put some outdoor clothes on you first. Nirreth's is happy to see you," G'nir replied and smiled. He was in no hurry to leave. Dragonsfall Weyr could wait a bit longer, he wanted to spend time with his daughter. It occurred to him, that he was completing a full circle, returning to where it all began.
