Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 5, day 15 of Turn 5
"Right, so I know some of you would rather have sweeprides than watch duty this next month, but please remember, we need some people for both. I hope we will have more volunteers than last month," the Wingleader said as he looked around the group of riders with an understanding smile.
As usual, Aileyan sat at the back of the group, and found her fingernails very fascinating. She just couldn't meet his gaze, not trusting herself not to blush.
"I also have a message from Weyrleader T'mahl." The Wingleader's smile grew slightly more fake. "He congratulates you on all your hard work, and he promises you that soon he will be leading his own wing again. The Weyrhealers assure him that he is fit and ready, so hopefully in the next Fall or so you can get your Wingleader back full time. I'm sure you will all be grateful for that."
Aileyan couldn't care less what the Weyrleader was doing. She found herself remembering her night with the wingleader. He was good, she had to admit that. She tried to push the memories out of her mind. She didn't want them affect the way she acted.
"There is a request also for volunteers who would be willing to allow a candidate to follow them around for a day. Of course, any greenriders who suspect their green will be rising within the next sevenday are asked not to volunteer. As for the rest of us who have no warning in the matter, well, we'll just have to take our chances, now won't we." Several of the men chuckled, knowing from experience that there was no way to predict when their lifemates would choose to chase, but for the most part they rather enjoyed when they did. "Right, any volunteers?" U'kaiah's eyes scanned the crowd, making note of any hands that went up.
Aileyan lifted her hand rather hesitantly. "Kjarliheth shouldn't rise before beginning of the sixth month," she said.
"Thank you, Aileyan. I appreciate your help." The bronzerider rewarded her with a warm smile. "Any others?"
Now, why did she do that? She didn't generally volunteer to anything. Was she craving for his attention?
The Wingleader jotted a couple more names down before filing the paper to the back of the pages in his hand. "Right. Now, we're going to have to make a slight shift to our greenrider's Fall schedule. Unfortunately, greenrider Medya will be transferring out of our wing." He gave her a slight pout as he turned to look at the girl sitting right next to Aileyan. "Hopefully it will only be temporary, and I hope I'm not spoiling your big secret, but I think everyone will know when they see flying in the Weyrwoman's wing that she is expecting a baby. Congratulations, Medya," he said as he joined the others around her clapping.
"Congrats," Aileyan whispered to her and joined the clapping.
"This is going to effect our Fall flight plans, of course, though only in that section of the wing. I'll need to go over exactly how with... Just a moment." He shifted his papers around once more to find his list. "C'prak, Aileyan, Nezella, R'dis and Cabula. After the meeting, please stay for a few minutes so I can go over the revisions with you."
Aileyan suppressed a sigh. Hopefully this wasn't making her late from picking up Ravyan. She also didn't want to spend any more time around U'kaiah that necessary. She knew their night together meant absolutely nothing, but it was so hard to act casual about it. It was her problem and she knew it. After being neglected in childhood, she yearned love and acceptance. She had to be careful not to turn into one of those clingy greenriders, who hung themselves to any man that crossed their path.
