"You know, this is stupid." F'gol said with a grumble as he sat with Meledei on a blanket outside of Elleth's entrance. It was the closest thing he could think of to a porch, but he felt ridiculous sitting out where everyone could see them. "We were sitting next to each other in the barracks months ago."
Meledei couldn't help but giggle. "Yes, but there we couldn't have a conversation in private. Here, people can see us but they can't necessarily hear us." It was sweet, just sitting there together, a couple. Meledei leaned over to gently bump him with her shoulder. "Aren't aunties and uncles supposed to sit on the porch together in their old age and reflect on days gone by? We're just getting an early start."
"I don't have any aunties or uncles, so I wouldn't know." F'gol wondered what he had ever been thinking. 'Courting' had to be about the stupidest idea he'd ever had.
"I think it's nice, just sitting out here together like this. We can watch the Weyr together." Her hand crept over and slipped into F'gol's. "Our Weyr."
Holding hands was allowable in courting wasn't it? Whatever, they'd done more than that already anyways. "Until you get transferred, or I get transferred. But probably you. They need queen riders all over the place."
"If I get transferred, you're coming with me." Meledei stated firmly. She wasn't going to go anywhere without F'gol - not if she could help it. "But I think I have _some_ say in the matter as to whether or not I get transferred, and you know, they _do_ take family into account if that needs to occur."
F'gol frowned, "Maybe." It was nice to think way he supposed, but life didn't turn out the way people wanted it to very often. He was a shining example of that.
"You're getting sullen again." Meledei poked F'gol in the arm with his free hand. He was so pessimistic and she hoped that he would everything wasn't as gloomy as he expected them to be.
His lips gave a slight upwards turn, but that was all. It wasn't that he was pessimistic, but realistic. However, he didn't want to spoil their time together. "How were your queen classes today? Bored to tears yet?"
"Not yet, but they probably will eventually." Meledei leaned into him a bit more and rest her head upon his shoulder. "I never realized how much work was involved in being a weyrwoman."
He nodded, enjoying the touch. He realized it had always been that way with them, little touches, hand holding, just leaning against each other. All the way back to their first sevenday of weyrlinghood. She had become his rock. His anchor to the human side of his life. If it hadn't been for her, he probably would have just curled up with Tealth and never talked to anyone, not after he'd been denied the Harper Hall. "Tealth isn't a search dragon. They had him sniff at all the left over candidates and some of the weyrbrats, but he wasn't able to pick out which ones had the potential. He didn't guess all wrong though, so who knows I guess."
"He's still young." Meledei's cheek massaged F'gol's shoulder as she spoke. "He could become a search dragon later. If not, he's still a special dragon. Watch it, he'll have some special ability that will make him stand out from the crowd, you wait and see."
F'gol snorted. "You mean like his incredible capacity to stuff his face? Have you seen how big he's getting? I think he's still bigger than Elleth, if not longer in the tail."
"Yes, he is bigger than Elleth." Meledei's thoughts went a little darker for a moment. She shrugged it off quickly. "He's going to be huge for a blue. Does he still think he's a bronze?"
He gave a small laugh, "He acts like it sometimes. Especially with T'kob making me group leader, it's all gone to his big blue head." He didn't know what the Weyrlingmaster had been thinking there, but he handled his group well enough he supposed.
"He's more handsome than a bronze." Meledei punctuated her words with a laugh. "I wouldn't have him any other way - nor you for that matter."
"It is a better color." He agreed, though part of him wished things could be different about the blue's makeup in general. "Bronze and brown just sort of blur into eachother, blue is very distinct and you never miss them from a distance."
"Unless the sky is clear of clouds. But then, he can sneak up on someone without them every knowing!" Meledei grinned and tilted her head back so she could look up at him. "Beware of Tealth!"
F'gol laughed at both her and the confusion he was feeling from his lifemate as he listened in on their conversation. "Oh yes, he is a ferocious monster of a beast. He'll flame all in his path and then eat them all for dinner."
"As long as he doesn't eat me or my father." Meledei giggled. "And my friends. Anyone else is up for grabs."
"What about Z'ku? Can he roast him?" F'gol didn't like the way he saw the bronzerider look at Meldedei. "I can promise that everyone else would be perfectly safe."
Meledei took the opportunity to pinch F'gol. "No, not him! He's my friend too, silly." She clicked her tongue and placed her head back on his shoulder. "What do you have against Z'ku?"
"Nothing." F'gol feigned innocence, "He just looks like he'd make a tasty treat for Tealth is all."
"You're horrible." Meledei admonished though it was accompanied by a laugh. "I bet you look good enough for Elleth to eat."
}:I would never do such a thing.:{ The gold chided gently.
**Are you sure? He could be tasty!**
The gold pondered this a moment, then replied, }:He looks salty and gamy.:{ Meledei laughed out loud.
F'gol turned to level his gaze on Meledei and gave her a scowl. "Why did Tealth just ask me if I was _salty_?"
Meledei tried to answer, but she was laughing so much it was impossible. Instead, she slumped against F'gol, trying to catch her breath so she could speak.
He couldn't help but laugh himself with her infectious giggling and bright beaming face. As he looked down at her he couldn't help but sigh. "You are so beautiful."
"You are so blind." Meledei managed to finally stop laughing and gave F'gol a quick kiss on his nose. "By the way, Elleth said you looked salty and gamy. She doesn't even want to nibble on you, so count yourself lucky."
"I'm extremely lucky." F'gol agreed as he leaned back and glared at the man watching their exchange as he walked across the bowl.
