NOT Pregnant!

Writers: AL, Cali
Date Posted: 11th October 2009

Characters: Sorsha, Ri'len
Description: Sorsha has complications with her pregnancy tea and Ri'len is worried.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 5, day 6 of Turn 5

Sorsha came out of the bathroom by the dining cavern and looked pathetically at Ri'len. He'd waited for her, of course, and offered her his hand. She gave it a squeeze when she took it and apologized again for having to run off and throw up.

"It's okay, babe." Ri'len leaned over and kissed Sorsha upon the top of her head. "But...I think you should see a healer."

"It's just the tea." Sorsha waved it off. She'd started taking the tea to prevent pregnancy now that she and Ri'len were being intimate again. "You know it always made me feel a little off before. I think all the flying is just making it worse."

"Are you sure?" Off, yes, but sick? "You _could_ be pregnant. This is the sort of thing that happens." He'd seen enough women in his father's hold fall prey to sickness to _not_ know. "And while the tea is supposed to prevent pregnancy, it's not a guarantee. I'd feel better if you got checked out just in case."

Sorsha shook her head. "We haven't even been intimate again for two sevendays. I don't think it's _possible_ that I could be pregnant again." Unless he thought she had been with someone else... but no, he would never think that of her.

"When did you have your last flow?" Ri'len didn't exactly know how a woman's cycle went, but he knew that if a woman had her flow, she wasn't pregnant. Maybe he should find out more.

"Not for almost three months. I did go to a healer about that. He said that sometimes the extra activity and stress of riding makes a girl stop or become intermittent. He said it wasn't anything to worry about." She explained. She'd gone during that time when Ri'len and her couldn't be alone together and she hadn't had an opportunity to tell him about it.

"But can the healer be sure?" That only increased Ri'len's worry. If she was pregnant, he didn't want anything to happen to the baby. "Why don't we make a trip to the dolphins? Someone told me they can see."

Sorsha laughed, his worry was so cute. "Ri'len, think. We haven't been together for five months until recently. If I was pregnant from before we Impressed, I'd be _huge_. And two sevendays isn't enough time to be showing any signs at all."

"But can't the dolphins see?" That's what he'd been told and the thought stuck in Ri'len's mind with insistent stubbornness.

She didn't know for sure. They hadn't had a stationed dolphineer at Green Bend growing up. Some would come in with trading ships or sporadically if there was something of interest the local dolphins had found, but that was it. "Maybe. I'm not pregnant though. I'll tell you what. If it keeps up, if it doesn't settle down in a few days I'll go see the healer again to make sure."

"I think I'd feel more comfortable having you see a dolphin." Ri'len admitted. "The healer's can't see."

"You trust an animal more than a person?" Sorsha asked with a laugh. "I don't even know how to _ask_ a dolphin that sort of thing, they're hard to understand. I'll see a healer... _if_ it keeps up."

"Someone told me there are dolphineers trained for that sort of thing, so you don't have to understand them." Ri'len wished she would see a dolphin. Healers were great, but they couldn't see inside her and make sure there wasn't a baby.

Sorsha sighed, he could be so stubborn once he got things into his head. "Ri'len. I'm not conversing with a dolphin nor bothering one of the dolphineers over nothing. _If_ this continues, and _if_ a healer suggests it, then I will. But I'm not pregnant. Now come on, I need to eat something, maybe it will settle my stomach down."

"All right." Ri'len would let it go - for the moment. He was just concerned about Sorsha. He didn't like seeing her ill and he was concerned what the affect on her flying during Threadfall would be once they graduated.
