Description: Teseada delivers a letter to Y'nub.
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 4, day 27 of Turn 5
Y'nub worked a brush over Larweth's hide as the bronze extended his wing so his rider could have an easy reach. His shoulder was still sore from the muscle he'd pulled at some point during the fire, but he tried not to think of it since he still had his work that needed done.
}: I itch down lower. :{ the bronze informed Y'nub who dutifully attended
the new spot. }: There, that was it. It's gone now. :{
** That's what I'm here for.** Y'nub replied, amused as he felt his
lifemate's pleasure. With him still grounded until the healers decided he
was completely fit to return to drills, caring for Larweth was about the
only thing that he seemed capable of.
"Bronzerider," called out Teseada. "A word please."
Y'nub looked up, mixed emotions flashed across his face when he saw her,
finally settling it into a mask. He wasn't looking for a fight today, he
was too tired.
"This will only take a moment," Teseada said.
"What is it?" His tone was flat, wary of anything Teseada might want with
him. After she'd discovered his romancing of her was in an attempt to woo
Onnyth for Larweth, he'd thought she'd never want to talk to him again. Yet it seemed like they couldn't stay away from eachother.
"This was sent to me from the cothold, I was asked to pass it on to you."
She held out a folded hide with the seal of the holder on it.
He took it curiously, ignoring the slight charge he felt as his fingertips
brushed against her hand. When he opened it he scanned the letter quickly
then held it out for Teseada to take back. "He's thanking us for helping
with the Hold. It's for you as much as me."
"It was addressed to you." pointed out the goldrider.
Y'nub didn't need any sort of accolades for what he did. He'd acted
spontaneously and foolishly and ended up hurt for his trouble. His uncle
would not have approved. "Well he's thanking me. He's also praising you
and the other riders that helped."
"But you were the one who was there fist, and the one that they saw the most of."
He let his arm drop, she obviously wasn't going to take the letter. For
some reason it bothered him to have possession of it, it put him into a
light he didn't feel comfortable with. Good guy, hero, whatever it was, it
wasn't him. He didn't mind playing the part for others, fooling men and
women into believing what he wanted them to was something he'd been taught
to do at an early age. With Teseada however, he didn't like to pretend.
What was the point, she'd seen through to the truth of him, she'd seen what
he really was. "Which doesn't make me special, it makes me the smuck that
was on sweep duty. It could have been anyone."
It had been him though, would that it wasn't this particular bronzerider
stood here. It didn't seem in character for what she knew of him to go and
save lives like that. The whole thing seemed to contradict itself in her
mind. Just who was this man after all. Mind you, if he'd been the type to
let the cothold burn he'd not have impressed. There had to be something
about him or Larweth would not have picked him on the sands. "You keep
that," she said finally. "You've earned it."
Y'nub held Teseada's gaze for a moment, then broke the connection.
Goldrider eyes held nothing but trouble, they were too powerful when he
wasn't prepared for them. He turned back to Larweth, putting more distance
between them and picked up the brush from the ground. "I've got to finish
before I lose the light."
"Y'nub," it was the first time she'd called him by name. "You did well out
there."
He wanted her to leave. The way his name rolled off her tongue reminded him of the way she used to call out when they were lovers. Maybe if he gave her what she wanted, she'd go away. "Thank you."
"You're welcome." She felt she should leave, but there was always something
there. Maybe she had been wrong about this man, maybe not. And that seemed
to be the problem. "Larweth probably needs you," she said after a moment.
"Yes, he's very itchy today." He couldn't hide the warmth in his voice when he spoke of his lifemate.
"I should go then," she said finally. "Well done bronzerider," were her
final words.
