Description: Who can possibly resist U'kaiah's charms? Aileyan just might..
Location: Dragonsfall Weyr
Date: month 2, day 3 of Turn 5
U'kaiah had just reached that level of feeling really good. The level
where confidence was at it's peak, as well as flirtiness, as well as his
instinct to find a bit of well deserving company for the night. And
then she walked through the door. Thick eye lashes and lips that could
make any man drool to catch them between his teeth. Why had he not
bedded that lovely creature before? he wondered as he downed the rest of
his glass and bid his mates good night.
Aileyan watched her friends back to weave it's way towards the "ladies
room". She turned her gaze to back to her glass on wine.
"Your friend isn't leaving you alone, I hope," the bronzerider said as
he paused next to her, empty glass in hand to make it look like he had
just been on his way for a refill.
"No, she just had to go for a few minutes," Aileyan said, lifting her
gaze to look at him.
"Oh, well, she shouldn't just leave you alone like that," he said,
slipping into the seat next to her. "There are men looking at you with
some interest. If she leaves you by youself, how does she know you'll
not be charmed away by some handsome bronzerider?"
"She would be delighted if that happened," Aileyan said dryly.
"Is that so?" he asked innocently. "Does she think you need a little
male attention?"
"Yes, she does," Aileyan admitted. Everyone seemed to think so, execpt
she.
Hmmm... sounded like a challenge! "You don't agree with your friend?"
"It depends," she said, cocking her head slightly. There was something
of a challenge in her tone, daring him to try, hinting it wouldn't be
easy, yet possible. Aileyan had always seen these things as a game, a
hunting game. They were hunters, she was the prey. Her job was to be
"hard to get". If they gave up after first try, they lost. But if the
man was patient and played his cards right, she eventually gave in and
they both won. The men were usually pleasantly surprised if they saw
the bother.
U'kaiah was an experienced hunter. Like his bronze, he lived for the
chase. "And I suppose you're not going to tell me just what it depends
on?"
"But it depends on so many things!" Aileyan said, her large eyes
looking completely innocent.
"I can see how that could be," the bronzerider nodded thoughtfully.
"I'm sure one thing is that it depends on your mood."
"Well, that's one," she admitted.
"So tell me," the bronzerider said with the aire of a mindhealer to
their patient, "just how would you classify your mood at this point?
Are you in the kind of mood that might be open to the possibility of
being swept off to some handsome bronzerider's weyr?"
"Not quite yet there," Aileyan said with raised eyebrowns.
"Fair enough," U'kaiah nodded. "That's a starting point at least. All
right, so what else does it depend on... hmmm... Well, perhaps it
depends on the bronzerider in question. Let's say, hypthetically of
course, that I were to play the role of the bronzerider. Please, be
honest and don't worry about my feelings here. This is scientific
reasoning. On a scale of one to ten, ten being the most handsome
bronzerider in the Weyr, how would you rate me?"
"Hhm, that's a tough one," Aileyan said thoughtfully and spent a
moment just eyeing from top to bottom. "Oh, I don't know. Maybe eight,
eight and a half, may even go to the nine if you're sober," she
finally said.
He threw his head back and laughed. "Would it be a ten if I were in my
riding leathers? I always thought I looked dashing in my riding
leathers."
"I haven't met the ten yet," she replied with an amused smile.
"Oh, well, good, when I'm sobber it sounds like I'm as good as it gets.
Although," he leaned in slightly closer, "I'm still an eight even when
I'm not. Please keep that in mind."
"Don't worry, I have a very good memory," Ailayan said and leaned away
from him. His breath wasn't exactly fresh just now.
"All right, what else could it depend on..." He tapped his chin
thoughtfully. "It could depand on creativity. So, going with our
hypothetical situation in which I were to try to pick you up, how
creature on a scale of one to ten do you think I have been so far?"
"About five," Aileyan replied.
"All right, I have to admit, I think that might be a little low," he
said with a pout. "Would it be a six if I were sober?"
"Who knows?" she replied with an indifferent shrug. No fun making it
too easy for them.
"Fine, fine, I'll accept that you've had some incredibly creative
suitors in the past. You're too pretty not to have had plenty of
experience with all sorts of men interested in you." He thought for a
moment. "How about humor, then? You have to admit that I am at least a
little amusing. How would I rank there?"
"I'm not very good with humour, I'm afraid," Aileyan said. She tended
to be the serious one.
"Ah well. Let's just assume that I'm hilarious then and you just didn't
realize." He gave her a smile, hoping that she would at least return
that.
Her face didn't even a twitch when she looked at him.
Luckily laughter wasn't a requirement once they got down to business.
She sure was a tough shell to crack though! "Do I at least rate on the
charm scale?"
"At the moment, your rating is falling down," Aileyan said.
"Oooo, that's not good," he said with a slight wince. "I can take
criticism at least. That has to count for something."
Aileyan just shrugged again. He had been so much nicer when he wasn't
flirting.
The bronzerider was beginning to understand the fight was lost. "Your
friend is sure taking a long time in the bathroom..."
Her friend was actually lurking near by, not wanting to interrupt. She
was keeping thumps up for Aileyan.
"So... Really? Nothing?" Well, this was growing awkward. U'kaiah
didn't always succeed, but he rarely felt like such a miserable failure.
"No luck this time," Aileyan said, but something in her tone indicated
that he might have more success some other time.
At least she was honest and didn't string him along. He smiled at that
at least, raising his empty glass. "I think I see your friend has come
back. I'd better give her seat back and rejoin my friends."
Aileyan nodded. "Have a good evening, Wingleader," she said politely.
"Please, don't add to my rejection," he said, his genuine smile not
faltering. "When I'm hitting on you, it's just U'kaiah."
"Is there a difference?" Aileyan asked curiously.
"Not really," he said with a shake of his head. "So let's just say if
we're not in riding gear, it's just U'kaiah."
"I remember that from now on," Aileyan said.
"Please." He lifted his glass once more. "Enjoy your evening." It
seems he was going to need that refill after all.
"Thank's, you too," she said politely.
