Description: Odarian checks up on Dyaera
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 8, day 19 of Turn 3
Odarian was trundling around the back corridors with a cart. **Lets see, medinces, numbweed. Nutrious broth, bread, water, that should do it.**
Odarian was off to visit one of their cases from the threadfall disaster last month.
dyaera had been relegated back to her weyr since she was beyond life threatening, and space was at a premium. **So that means us apprentices get to check up on her.** She was one sad case among many from that day, which Odarian hoped he could improve.
"Hello," Odarian said entering her weyr. "How are you feeling today dyaera, do you remember me from the infirmary?"
Dyaera was propped up on her couch, surrounded by a mountain of pillows.
"Odarian, wasn't it?" He wasn't hard to remember... he was the only apprentice in the infirmary whose father had been her Wingleader.
"Yes thats it," he responded pleased. "Now how are you feeling? Any discomfort?" He gave her one of his winning smiles. "I think I've come prepared for anything."
"Sore," she admitted, shrugging her good shoulder. "I know I didn't take any of the pain medicine yesterday, but I think I might need it today."
"I'm sorry," Odarian said poking around the cart. "Yes, here it is journeymen Dantial said you could have some of this." He approached her bed and offering her a cup and another reassuring smile. "Drink up."
She made a face and obeyed, handing the cup back to him. "I promise I won't be stubborn about pain medicine ever again. I promise."
"Good!" was his emphatic response as he took back the cup. "Theres no reason to put up with pain when we can help it ease it for you. Thats my job, to ease pain, now also promise to let me do that?"
Dyaera wrinkled her nose as she relaxed back against the couch. "I suppose.
I guess I'm supposed to listen to the healers, but I've never been really hurt before. Not like this."
Odarian was trying to remain cheery, inspite of the sad situation. "I'm sorry. I know saying there are a lot of people in the same situation won't help. But there are, and you've pulled through, and are here right now, which is wonderful." He had come around to sit beside her. He motioned as if to pick up one of her hands. "May I?"
She nodded absently, obviously turning his words over in her head. "I know... I guess it could have been worse. I _know_ it could have been worse..."
While she spoke Odarian took her hand placing it in one of his. He began inscribing circles on her hand with his thumb. He had discovered a while ago that people found the repetative motion calming. "MmmHmm, Mmmhmm," he responded to her words. "And from here," he finished her thoughts, "It can only get better. Speaking of which, can you tell me how this feels?"
"It feels nice..." She smiled at him. "Soothing. You're good at that."
"I'm glad you think so dyaera. I do try to be." He reached his other hand tenatively pushing a lock of her hair behind her ears. "Its the least I can do, for you, dyaera."
Feeling flattered and pleased, Dyaera's smile widened. "Thank you, Odarian."
"You know, you should try doing that more often," he replied pointing to her smile. "Not only am I sure that is making you feel better, its a treat for those around you too."
Dyaera leaned over and kissed his cheek impulsivly. "You should be my apprentice healer all the time. You say the nicest things."
"Welll," Odarian drawled out slowly. "Sometimes I'm especially inspired."
Dyaera beamed at him. "Well, that's good to know. Sometimes I think I'm going to spend the rest of my life with big ugly scars."
"I may only be an apprentice, but I think I can honestly say you will not have big ugly scares. Your complexion may have a big more character though."
"Character?" Dyaera wrinkled her nose. "Isn't that a nice word for strange looking?"
"Or is strange looking a mean way to say Character?" Odarian countered, but with a dismissive wave. "Around a weyr? and more recently? Not having a scar or something well, wouldn't be strange looking, but would mark you as younger, less experienced perhaps?" He shrugged. "I think it gives you bit of a mature air."
"Really?" She hadn't thought of that. Her short stature and lack of feminine curves had always left her looking younger than she was, something she'd always hated. "I suppose I hadn't thought of that..."
"Well now, you can, mull over it for a bit. And obviously peoples tastes run differently, but how can one not appreciate an older, mature women." He flashed her a teasing look. "One that obviously knows what she wants, and how to _achieve_ it."
No one had _ever_ called Dyaera a mature woman before, and it was quite clear from her expression that Odarian had found the perfect form of flattery. "Well, I'd like to be mature... but I'm not sure I'm going to be looking for any _younger_ men any time soon."
"Well, thats too bad for them now isn't it?" Odarian replied off handedly.
"Nah, it's not like there are all that many of them." Dyaera grinned. "For now, since I'm only sixteen, I think I've got _lots_ of older men to choose from!"
"Only sixteen?" Odarian said, continuing his current line of conversation.
"I never would have guessed. Are you sure?"
Dyaera snorted. "Pretty sure."
Odarian had finished the ministrations to her hands a bit ago.
"Alllirght, I'll take your word for it, Dyaera. Now, is there, _any_thing... else I can do, for you?"
"Come back tomorrow?" she asked hopefully. She liked Odarian a lot more than some of the other apprentices.
"I think that can be arranged," he replied with a smile. "I'll look forward to it, maybe even more then you."
