Afkica sidled up to F'gol with a big smile on her face. "I am sick to death of studying Threadfall patterns and weather influences! What are you doing with your free time this evening?"
"Anything other than studying." He replied with a grin. It was in fact _exactly_ what he'd been planning on doing, but he was always up for putting off something as boring and over his head as that. "Did you have anything in mind?"
"How about we go explore the empty weyrs? Which one we get will be assigned when we graduate, but it's fun to look and think about anyway. Of course there are far more empty still than just our class will be able to fill."
F'gol didn't really see the point in picking out weyrs they wouldn't get, but he did like the idea of exploring. "Sounds fun." **Tealth, do you mind if I go into the Weyr and look around for awhile?**
Tealth wanted to go exploring too, but he didn't like the tight corridors of the Weyr. }:I will stay here with Shralyth :{
Having gotten a similar response from her green dragonet gave F'gol a wink, "Guess it's just you and me. You know I actually found a couple of marks exploring the empty weyrs before. Handed it in to the headwoman of course, but still, it was fun to find."
"Why'd you do a thing like that?" F'gol frowned as he started to walk out of the barracks with the girl. "You should have pocketed them."
The girl shrugged as she walked with the other weyrling, "I don't know. Felt like stealing. I know it really wasn't, but if felt like it. I ended up with a quartermark out of the whole thing so that was okay."
F'gol shrugged as well, if she wanted to give up marks that was her call he supposed. "So do we want to go up high or down low?"
"Up high," the girl answered enthusiastically. "Have you explored the Weyr much?"
"The Hall side," he thumbed over in that direction, "And a little bit past that." He added with a wicked grin. In truth, he'd had a variety of expeditions since the Hall had moved to the Weyr, but none had had much success since everyone involved had been afraid of being caught.
"I've been exploring it my whole life, and there is just always more to discover," she said laughing at the mischievous look on his face as she started up the stairs. "When I was younger, I used to get in plenty of trouble, I can tell you."
The first weyr they found empty was an inside room, it was big enough for a couple, but not really a family. There were several pieces of furniture stacked up along a wall and a thin layer of dust to accompany it, but nothing else. "Well that was a waste."
"What were you expecting? Firelizard eggs?" Afkica quipped. "Let's find one that would house a dragon. I love my sister's weyr, the view is great!"
He was _expecting_ marks, since she said she'd found some, but he was up for dragon weyrs, he might even find one he liked for himself. "Bowl side it is then." And motioned for her to lead.
Afkica continued on, through the stone halls until she reached an empty weyr on the bowl side. This one too was covered in dust, but the furniture had been left in place. "This is a nice sized Weyr," she stated. "Doesn't look like it was cleaned very well," she pointed to an empty wine bottle and chipped glass on a small table.
"Or it _was_ cleaned, and then somebody decided to have a fun evening in here." F'gol suggested. He doubted that a headwoman would see fit to leave an emptied weyr dirty like that. "Do you think we'd get one this large? Aren't we supposed to get the small weyrs since we have the smaller dragons?"
"This is a good sized weyr, larger than my sister's, but honestly I can't say for sure," she said thoughtfully as she opened one of the cupboards. Afkica then sat on the bed, bouncing softly and noticed something as she did. She moved to the head of the bed and looked down between the wall and bedframe. "There's something caught back there." She reached her arm down to catch ahold of what felt like a hide wrapped around a stick.
"What is it?" F'gol peeked his head up from the couch where he'd been looking underneath.
Pulling it out, Afkica gave it a look then passed it to the other weyrling, "You tell me," she answered passing him the wooden instrument which had been wrapped in an old hide with notes scratched on it.
F'gol recognized it as a beginner whistle flute, the kind a first turn apprentice would use, or maybe the child of a harper. The hide had a simple teaching song written on it, something easy that would be good practice for that sort of instrument. He passed it back to Afkica. "It's a flute, probably for a child."
Afkica accepted the instrument back, turning it over in her hands. No mark. "Maybe the owner of this weyr was a harper with a child."
"Maybe." He agreed, it made sense anyways, "Anything else back there?"
Craning her neck to look, Afkica shook her head, "Nope, looks like that was it."
"Well, there wasn't anything under the couch either, shall we go to the next weyr?" F'gol suggested then, wanting to continue on so they could see as much as possible before lights out.
"Lead the way," Afkica said with a laugh. She never should have mentioned finding marks in a weyr! Maybe she should have told him that it was only one time out of more than twenty such excursions. Ah, well, she was having a good time anyway.
