Dysali looked over at a table full of D'ren and his wingmates, watching for a few moments as they all began to finish and leave. She sighed, looking down at her own half eaten meal. She and D'ren had talked some since Lillyth's flight last month. But they hadn't slept together... at all. He was growing more depressed, or he had been. Somehow, she thought this change of leadership would energize him a bit. At least, she hoped it would.
He was smiling now, though, and she thought there wouldn't be a better time to approach him.
There was a dragonpoker game later this evening, and she wanted to see if he would go with her.
Summoning the courage that she took with her each time she and Lillyth rose to fight Thread, she stepped over to his table, nodding and smiling hellos at the few riders left with him. Thankfully, the talking and laughter did not ominously stop when she approached. That was good, at least. "Hi D'ren..." She offered with a faint smile. "Can I join you?"
The smile was gone from his face, but it hadn't turned into a frown. "I guess."
She flinched, but tried to hide it in her movements to join him. What had happened to them? Why had they broken their promise to each other? When had they lost their way?
Another smile graced her lips, but she studied him a moment before speaking. "We haven't talked much... and I was hoping that we .. could. Could we?" His wingmates were not paying attention to them, and their words were quiet enough, but she knew they were all listening eagerly. Silly wherries.
"Here? Or somewhere private?" He didn't want to talk, but he felt guilty seeing her so hesitant. It was his problem, his guilt, and she didn't deserve to suffer for it.
She was fairly sure she'd not get him off somewhere alone. And if she did, there'd be no talking. At least, not useful talking. "Well, there's a dragonpoker game tonight. We could spend a little time .. privately... before, but I thought it would be a good way to spend time together. I miss you. Our friends miss you too.. and me... " Though she said it simply, not accusingly, and smiled gently at him as she spoke, her fists tightened under the table. She barely knew how he'd react to things lately, and they'd been together for turns! It was odd, being so unsure. But choice was a precious commodity in the Weyr, and they both knew it.
His first reaction was to say no. Going to a party was one of the last things he wanted to do. But he supposed he should make _some_ kind of effort, especially with the way things had gone with them over the last month. And there would be alcohol. If he got drunk by himself it would be moping, but if he got drunk at a party it was just having fun. Right? "I ... guess I could go."
She breathed again.
"That's great, D'ren! We'll have fun, I promise." She paused and then lay her hand on his arm, letting the caress tell him how she felt. "I'll meet you at your weyr in about a candlemark, okay?"
"Okay." He managed a little smile. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad.
Dysali was so pleased at his answer, she smiled brightly and leaned up to kiss him lightly without thinking. It was a gesture she'd done so many times it seemed natural, even with their... relationship... needing some help.
"I'll see you soon." she added, still smiling. Foolish, to be so happy over one word.
