Relea

Relea

Relea stood on the docks, watching her brother's ship as it sailed from port. He would be back late that evening. It was nothing unusual, but Relea had wanted to get out of the house, so she had accompanied him on his way to the ship and watched until was a line upon the horizon. She smiled, blinking up in the brilliant sky, marveling at the blue. A lovely day. She had some work that had to get done at home, but she could enjoy herself for a little while first.

He had stood watching as the ship left the dock, hoping to remain invisible until he wouldn't have been recognised by anyone on board. He hadn't wanted to go against Leaton's wishes, or more to the point, his directive; but the last couple of sevendays his nights had been haunted by Relea's face every night as he lay in bed. Her smile warming his heart in his dreams - his arms reaching out for her but waking up empty the following morning. He couldn't have stayed away if he had been ordered to.

His eyes left the vessel and searched for her again on the pier, and a smile brightened his face at the sight of her. He quickly left the shaded area he had been standing in, and made his way forward, hoping to approach her from the front so she wouldn't be shocked by his appearance.

Despite his attempts to stay visible to her, Relea was shocked, the expression upon her face revealing that fact. It was quickly replaced by pleasure, however, and she moved forward to meet him, signing 'hello' and accompanying the greeting with a bright smile. She took up her stylus and wrote quickly, "What are you doing here?"

He signed back to her, a smile of uncertainty on his face. "I hope you don't mind?" he asked, his face creasing into a small frown. "I couldn't resist calling on you to say hello." he spoke slowly, enunciating his words carefully, but adding sign language when he could remember some of the words.

Relea shook her head, still smiling. A quick wipe of the stylus and the girl let her hand sweep over it once more, "It's nice to see you."

"It's good to see you as well. How have you been since I last saw you?"

She made the sign for 'good', one of the few that Relea had managed to teach Nico before her departure. It was a shame they hadn't more time, she could teach him more. He seemed interested, perhaps interested to learn enough where he would learn enough to converse easily. "Kept busy." Relea wrote out on her stylus, "How are _you_?"

"I'm good." he nodded, repeating the sign back to her. "I... I've missed you - onboard the boat I mean." he said awkwardly, his signing skills falling short of being able to translate to sign.

Relea made the sign for 'sweet', another of the few she had managed to teach him in her time on the riverboat. She referred back to her stylus to continue the conversation. "How long are you here?"

"Two days, enough to unload, reload and board the passengers we have for this trip. So....how long is your brother gone for?"

Relea's lips turned up into a mischevious grin and she wrote out, "Three days." Of course, someone would probably tell her brother that a man had come to call, but she didn't care. She was tired of him trying to run her life - she was going to have some fun for once.

"Good!" Nico grinned and signed in reply. "So? Care to come for a walk with me?" he asked, holding out his arm for her to accept.

The girl answered by slipping her arm into Nico's. If her brother was there, oh the fit he would have! Nico would probably find himself in a fistfight. But her brother wasn't there and she wasn't going to take him to their cot. She would be sure to be out in public with him at all times so that even her brother could not say she had acted in a wanton manner - which she was certain he would do once he found out.

Nico's back straightened with pride as he strode along the docks with Relea on his arm. The girl hadn't been out of his mind for the past month, and now, to have her on his arm - he couldn't believe his luck. "Would you like to get something to eat?" he asked, signing to her the basics that he could remember."

Relea kept her answer to a simple 'yes', something that was universally understood with a simple gesture. The girl glanced about as they walked. There was no one she recognised, but that wasn't to say that someone wouldn't see them. It was a big hold and entirely possible no one either she or her brother knew _would_ see them...but it was also unlikely. Well, she'd worry about the consequences when they came. For the moment, she was simply going to enjoy herself.
