Description: Meledei and Sorsha discuss sex.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 27 of Turn 5

Meledei had done her best not to yawn through the class. She had heard it all before, knew about everything they were talking about. They talked about such things a lot as a candidate so she honestly wasn't sure why they bothered as a weyrling. She supposed they thought that candidates might not take such things to heart until they were Weyrlings and realised how that really would affect them.

The gold weyrling glanced around the classroom and all the other weyrlings. Some were weyrbred, but a goodly chunk of them were hold and craft. Yeah, such things probably did bear repeating, especially for those who weren't used to being around such things all the time. She had grown up in the weyr, it was a part of her life, even if she had never taken an active role. Class finally came to an end and everyone was allowed a break until the next class. Meledei stood up and stretched languidly, glad to finally be able to get out of her chair.

"You know, I still find this class very uncomfortable." Sorsha whispered as they walked down the cooridor.

"Really?" Meledei's lips slid easily into a grin as she fell into step beside her friend. "But you and Ri'len were married, so I _know_ it's not like you don't have any experience. Why does it bother you?"

Sorsha shrugged, "I guess it's just all the talk about it. I understand the necessity of disregarding all the Hold ideals of monogomy because of flights; but I was brought up with sex being a very private thing. To just be discussing it so openly just feels odd. I'm trying to adjust."

"I can see that too." Meledei stated after a moment. "I mean, I have no problem discussing sex right now because, really, I've never had anyone to be interested in. However, I don't think I'd be comfortable discussing my sex life with someone if I was ever with somebody. I don't know if that makes sense or not."

"It does." she assured the other girl. "But you've never been with anyone? I thought since you were from the Weyr..."

"I'm from the Weyr," Meledei nodded slowly, "But no, I've never been with anyone. I've just never found anyone I've ever really cared to _be_ with. There is more than one school of thought regarding sex from Weyrbred." The goldrider gave Sorsha a lopsided smile. "Granted, I'm in the minority, but that's never been a problem."

Sorsha gave the girl a sympathetic smile, "It might be a problem in a few months; Especially with you having a gold."

"I'm aware of this." Meledei shrugged again. She didn't really necessarily _want_ to be a virgin when her gold rose, but she still had trouble thinking of herself with anyone - except maybe...well...Meledei shook off the idea. Sex wasn't just sex to her - she wanted to be with someone she cared about - and who cared about her in return. "Things can change by then though."

"Well is there anyone you like?" Sorsha asked innocently. It wasn't like she didn't understand where Meledei was coming from, it was in line with her own views after all, but she hoped the girl would realize that a bad experience with a flight wouldn't be good for her _or_ Elleth. "I know I saw you dancing with at least a dozen men at Turn's End."

"Yeah. They were mostly dancing with me because I'm a goldrider now." Meledei gave a small smile at that thought. It was nice to have the attention, and while she loved Elleth more than life itself, she wanted to be defined as more than simply a goldrider. "I have friends, good friends, but no one that could be a romantic interest." Meledei wasn't quite ready to admit her feelings to anyone else just yet! "There's that secret admirer of mine, but I definitely don't want to be with someone I don't know!"

Sorsha giggled, "That's true, and you know if you ever get a mysterious note that says meet me at the beach or something to run away!"

"Or," Meledei mused mischeviously, "Show up with a big, strong bronzerider."

"With two sisters, Ri'len's got the big brother routine down pat, I'm sure he'd be happy to offer his protective services." Sorsha suggested with a grin. She loved it when Ri'len got all protective of _her_.

"There's an idea." Meledei wiggled her finger in the air. "How is he in a fight?"

Sorsha giggled again, "I don't know, are you expecting one?"

"Not really, but you never know." Meledei lay her finger against her nose and winked. "Gotta be prepared. He might get jealous of Ri'len."

"Hey now," Sorsha laughed, "I said I'd lend him to you as a _big brother_, not as a rival for your affections!"

"Oh no, I wouldn't take him away from you." Meledei assured Sorsha with a grin. "Just borrow him - for appearances."

"For appearances then." Sorsha agreed. She momentarily wondered if Ri'len would ever win one of Meledei's flights. While it didn't appeal to her, she was surprised to find that it didn't bother her as much as she thought it might. If he and Monilath _had_ to win a gold flight, then Meledei's would be the one she'd prefer. At least then it'd be with a friend. "I'm going to get a quick drink before our Etiquette class, want to come?"

"Sure!" Meledei stated cheerfully. She didn't really want to have Ri'len. He was nice and all, but he was taken, and she liked him as nothing more than a friend anyway. She wondered, though, if anyone would want to be with her. She didn't want to have sex for the sake of it. No, to her it was an expression of something more, of caring for someone deeply. But who would care for her in that way? Her mysterious admirer? She didn't even know the guy. Discounting him? Meledei honestly couldn't think of anyone else who might be even halfway interested in her romantically. F'gol hadn't seemed to show any interest in anything other than friendship and Meledei was just going to have to be content with that.
