"Happy birthday Salubri." Meledei called out to the greenrider as she passed where F'gol and she were sitting. Salubri didn't normally mingle with them, nor was she particularly friendly, but at Meledei's statement, she smiled brilliantly and waved, as if gracing them with her notice before turning to make her way out of the door. Meledei shrugged and looked back to F'gol, cards carefully arranged in her hand. "So...are you going to go already?"

F'gol looked carefully at the cards, it was a new game to him and he was trying to get in a quick one before lights out. As he laid a card down he asked, "How'd you know it was her birthday, and more importantly, why do you care, she's a brat."

"I heard her talking with a friend." Meledei shrugged and chose a card, laying it down, then taking it as her card trumped his. "Besides, just because she's mean doesn't mean I can't at least try to be nice to her."

F'gol crinkled his nose as if smelling a foul odor. He didn't know why Meledei would bother being nice to her, it's not like she'd been nice to her back. "I heard somebody put tunnelsnakes in her dresser awhile back. That would have been fun to see."

"Now, F'gol! You sholdn't be so mean." But Meledei had to lift her cards to just hide the smile that refused to be beaten down. "Ahem...your turn."

He took a card from the stack and then laid down one he didn't think he'd need, only to cringe as Meledei eagerly picked it up. "So when's your birthingday? Mine's not until month eight."

"Oh, mine was last month. I turned seventeen." Meledei studied her cards, chose one and set it down. She was winning and the thought made her grin.

"You're _older_ that me?" He looked up from his hand, surprised. She was shorter than him so he'd thought her younger, but then again, he was finally hitting a few growth spurts so maybe that wasn't a good judge anymore.

"Is that a problem?" Meledei gazed at F'gol over her cards, eyebrows raised. "How old are you?"

F'gol shook his head as he drew another card. "It's not a problem and I'm sixteen, so you're not _that_ much older than me."

"About seven months." Meledei calculated, setting down a third card. "So when in month eight?"

"First day." F'gol said offhandedly. He wasn't doing very well with this game, but tried to tell himself not to be mad about it, he was still learning.

Meledei put down another card, then gathered the pile. She chose one of her last two remaining cards and placed it down. "I'll have to remember it."

"I like bubbly pies." He replied with a smirk as he took her card off the table.

"Who doesn't?" Meledei hadn't met one person who didn't like bubblies pies and wouldn't accept one when given. "Maybe we should have a party."

F'gol looked up at the goldrider, surprised at the suggestion. "I've never had a birthingday party before."

"All the more reason to make sure we have one." Meledei grinned over the last card, waiting for F'gol to put his down. Of course, she might have to draw which meant she wouldn't necessarily win, but she was hoping he'd put down something that would let her place her last one.

F'gol wasn't sure what card he had, so he could only guess at a strategy as he picked a card and laid it down on the table. "Well, we'll see if I live that long before you start planning anything too elaborate."

Meledei wrinkled her nose - shaffit, she would have to pull. She began to draw cards from the deck and let a sly smile slip over her lips. "Oh don't worry, with me around, you'll live. I have to make sure of it now so I can throw you that party!"
