Description: The boys show off during a workout.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 1, day 19 of Turn 5
Ri'len put his feet together, kept his legs straight, then stretched down as far as he could. He could just barely touch his toes. He had seen Meledei do even better, able to lay her palms flat on the ground. Of course, he had heard before that women tended to be more flexible than men - he could certainly believe it after seeing how far some of the female weyrlings could stretch - even Sorsha! He wondered if they could find a use for that once they were able to be intimate again.
The bronze fairly shook himself. He needed to stop thinking things like that. It would be a while before that was going to happen and it didn't help matters to just think about it. He forced his mind to focus back on what he was doing - stretching so he wouldn't cramp up during the exercises.
"Want to partner up?" F'gol asked as the group moved on to the pushups. He usually liked showing off how many he could do to Afkica or Meledei, but they'd partnered up this time so he'd approached his bunk neighbor.
"Sure." Ri'len agreed readily. F'gol seemed a nice sort, if a bit offput by his surprise impression. Ri'len could understand that. While he had asked to stand because of Sorsha, he hadn't actually _expected_ to impress. He got down upon the floor and stretched out before lifting himself upon his toes and holding his upper body with his hands. "You counting?"
F'gol laid down next to Ri'len and stuck his balled fist underneath the bronzerider's chest. "Only the ones that actually touch." And he'd stick to it, unlike with the girls, where as long as they got close he'd count it.
"Fair enough." Ri'len nodded and then began on his pushups. He stopped when F'gol got to seventy-five and stood, motioning to the ground. "Your turn."
He nodded as he got up on his toes and waited for Ri'len to stick his fist out. The bronze boy had done his first half without even slowing down, so F'gol had to do at least as well if not better.
Ri'len took up his position, fist stuck out and watching F'gol closely as the exercise began. "One," He counted, careful not to give the bluerider any slack. The young hold-bred chuckled softly to himself in between counts.
F'gol might have been holding a gitar for turns, but he wasn't a bred hold boy who'd worked out in the fields all his life either, so as he heard Ri'len count out seventy-six, he sat up. His arms felt like rocks but he wasn't going to say anything.
A small smile played upon Ri'len's lips. Was it a challenge of some sort? He pondered telling F'gol to count again and one up him, but decided to not be a show off. "Good job." He stated warmly as he, too, rose.
"Sit ups then?" F'gol suggested as he saw other pairs also finish and move on to the next warm up. He was better at these, turn's strengthening his core for singing had left him with quite the defined abdomen."
"Certainly." Ri'len motioned back to the ground. "You go first."
F'gol wanted to groan, he needed a few moments to rest, but he wouldn't dare show weakness so he laid back down and waited for Ri'len to secure his feet. As he worked into a rhythm, with Ri'len's counting as the beat, he could ignore the pain somewhat, and was able to reach the hundred mark before finally calling it. He had to rest on the weyrbowl floor for a moment before standing up to switch places.
"You okay?" Ri'len asked, genuinely concerned. The expression upon F'gol's face had been one of pain for those last few sit ups and he hoped that the younger man wasn't over doing it.
"Of course!" F'gol grunted as he motioned for Ri'len to take his turn. He just needed to catch his breath was all.
Ri'len's lips twitched in amusement as he settled himself upon the floor. He allowed F'gol to hold his feet just as he had done for the bluerider, then started upon the sit ups. He was in good shape, the work he had to do at the hold and the work needing quite a bit of strength and stamina.
"Ninety seven... Ninety eight... Ninety nine..." F'gol's counting came to an abrupt halt as Ri'len scooted back signaling that he was finished. "And you're done? You couldn't do one more?"
"I'm done." Ri'len sat up and leaned his arms over his legs, breathing deeply. "Yep, I'm done." He pushed himself to his feet and looked to the blue weyrling. "What next?"
F'gol pointed towards the ocean and several pairs already ahead of them, "Laps down to the dock." It was one of their normal warm up routines.
"Ah, yes." Ri'len turned and placed his hands upon his hips. "Race?"
He grinned, "If you think you can keep up."
"I can try." The bronze weyrling replied in amusement.
Honestly, F'gol figured the older weyrling had the edge on him. While he liked running, he was tired already, and Ri'len seemed to have some hidden stamina in him. Still, he'd never just _give_ the race away. "Ready Set Go!"
