"Here you go." F'gol said quietly, holding out a palm sized rock in front of Meledei. It was almost lights out, but she'd been mad at him all afternoon and he didn't want to lose her friendship like he'd lost Sheste's and Jestyn's.

Meledei stared down at the rock, then looked up at F'gol, brow crinkled in confusion? "What's this?" The question was asked with a sharp tone. Was he trying to joke around? Was this a game of some sort?

"It's a rock." he gave a crooked smile, but then decided that levity might not be called for at this particular moment. "For you to throw at your horrible friend."

"Oh." Meledei looked back at the rock and tossed it into the air where it did a flip before landing back in her hand. "Do I get to throw it at your head?"

F'gol cringed, desperately hoping she was kidding. "Not if you forgive me?"

"Forgive you? I suppose that _is_ an option?" The girl thought for a moment, then shook her head. "Nah, hitting you with this is more fun." She pulled her arm back in preparation to launch.

"Waitwaitwaitwait!" he cried as he threw his hands up and ducked slightly, "I haven't had a chance to apologize properly yet."

"Hm." Meledei slowly lowered her hand. "Well, I guess I ought to give you that chance at least."

He straightened back up and flashed a grin. "Okay, I'm really sorry I said all those things about your flowers. While I am worried about the intentions of this unknown person, I don't think that the flowers have mites in them."

He didn't think the flowers had mites? How nice. "Is that it?" Meledei lifted the rock again in preparation to throw it once more.

"And I liked the note?" He added questioningly as he cringed slightly. He was suddenly regretting the whole rock thing.

"Oh come on." Meledei did her best to keep from smiling. As it was, her lips were straining hard against her better judgment. "You said it was from a trashy harper story."

"Well..." he drawled out. He could see she was weakening her resolve to be mad at him. "Maybe I partake in a late night reading or two myself sometimes."

"You do?" This caused Meledei's hand to drop to her side, eyes wide. "Are you serious?"

F'gol stood erect, in proper harper pose, and looked slightly up as if trying to recall something. "As she allowed him to draw ever closer to her, she felt her chest heave as her excitement swelled like the---" He had to stop, he couldn't keep the laughter out of his voice one he had snuck a peek at Meledei's face. "Oh come on, who do you think _writes_ this stuff! I'm a, _was_ a harper!"

"_Are_ a harper." Meledei barely managed to blurt the words between her laughter. "I had no idea you read that sort of stuff. Okay, now, stay still." Meledei took a step back and lifted the stone. "Move and you'll get beaten too."

Shards! She was actually going to do it. While he thought he'd have no problem taking her in a fight, he held his place, one hit was worth Meledei's friendship, and it'd teach him to keep his mouth shut. "Just don't hit the nose." he whimpered as he squeezed his eyes shut.

There was a hiss of wind and then a dull plunk behind him, then silence.

F'gol peeked at Meledei with one eye and saw her standing with her arms crossed and a inscrutable expression on her face. As he opened the other eye he looked behind him at the rock on the floor. "You missed."

"Did I now?" Meledei jabbed her fists against her hips and stared down at the rock. "Well, I guess I did. Oh well, I only get one shot."

He didn't really believe that she'd missed on accident, he was too close. He flashed a grin, knowing that he'd been forgiven. "So are we friends again?"

"Yeah, I guess so." Not that Meledei had ever thought she _wasn't_ going to be friends with him. She'd been annoyed at him, but not to the point where she didn't want to be friends. "Just promise me you'll lighten up, okay?"

"I'll try." And he really would. He'd already lost two friends recently, he didn't want to lose another, especially not one as great as Meledei.
