A First Time

Writers: Devin, Cali, Eimi
Date Posted: 6th February 2009

Characters: B'vin, D'ren, D'cal
Description: B'vin's green Serenth rises.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 17 of Turn 4

B'vin felt Serenth, _was_ Serenth, launch into the air and trumpet to the male dragons to give chase. She was rising, and she would have only the best claim her today. B'vin could feel the press of male riders surrounding him, their dragons trying to prove themselves to his speedy green, and the elation of the flight met with the trepidation of the aftermath. He saw D'cal, and tried to urge her, make her, choose Aosorath, but he also saw many other riders, including D'ren and even the Weyrleader, and knew it would be hard for the young blue to out manoeuvre Serenth's preference for brown. He forced himself to press down his fears, now was not the time for it, and focused on keeping control of Serenth as she flew higher and farther from the Weyr.

D'ren let himself be overtaken by his dragon's emotions. Yes, it was strange and disturbing to feel desire for B'vin, but it was wonderful to fly as Menanth. He was strong and confident, and he would prove himself to the lovely green darting ahead. He caught a thermal to send him higher and dodged around the other competing males. He wasn't the largest or the fastest, but he was still the best. }:I am the one you want!:{ he called to Serenth.

Aosorath used his only advantage he had - speed. He was barely bigger than the green they chased, but that in itself was an advantage. The tiny blue could almost match the object of his desire in speed, though he expended far more energy than his larger brothers and he would soon tire. But D'cal silently urged his lifemate on, willing him to prove himself worthy of Serenth. He wanted it more than just for his little blue, but for his best friend as well.

Serenth burst through the clouds and relished in the heat of the sun that hit her. She looked back to see the blue, brown, and bronze chasers burst through behind her. She could see Aosorath, he was fast and she knew B'vin wanted her to choose him, but she was not ready to allow herself caught just yet. She dove down back into the clouds, and bugled a taunt at the dragons, she would only be caught by one worthy of her. Too late she realized her error. By toying with them in the clouds she had lost sight of them and upon emerging from the cloud bank she discovered several were right on her tail. When one claimed her, twining his neck with hers, she knew she had been caught by the best.

As his thoughts gathered. D'ren remembered being in a Flight. Warm skin pressed against him in a few places. He opened his eyes, and they immediately went wider when he saw the rider next to him. "B'vin?!" he squeaked.

B'vin recognized the voice, and for a brief moment felt relief swell in his chest. Aosorath had finally won. As he turned towards the voice though, reason pushed past the fogginess in his mind and he realized he knew the voice from someplace -someone- else. "D'ren?"

"Uh ... well ... this is ... a surprise." D'ren shifted away, putting some space between them. He knew that something like this had to happen eventually, but the reality was unnerving. And with _B'vin_ ...

The greenrider started shutting down. D'ren's obvious revulsion at having been with him started his stomach cramping and he turned away as he pulled a blanket up to cover himself. "Serenth usually chooses browns..."

"I'm sorry. I've just never..." D'ren swallowed. "been with a man before." He tried to think about it rationally. This was something male riders had to deal with. It would almost certainly happen again, so he had to get used to it.

"You don't have to worry. I don't expect anything from you." B'vin hadn't ever been with someone so inexperienced with flights before. It confused him, but also made him feel the need to defend himself, especially since he knew he'd see D'ren again. "And I'm not going to be chasing after you or anything later, I'm not a freak, it was just a flight."

"I didn't say you were a freak." D'ren sat up.

"But it was what you were thinking." It was what they all thought after his flights.

D'ren frowned. "No. Why would I think that? Just because I'm holdbred doesn't mean I still think like them."

B'vin couldn't help but turn to look at the man, he couldn't believe that he actually _meant_ it, but maybe he was trying not to hurt his feelings. "It's probably just shock, it'll set in once the rest of the flight wears off."

"Shock? Like I've been through a trauma?"

That's how most seemed to think of it as, but he didn't want to talk about how disgusted everyone was with having sex with him. Instead, he rolled off the cot and tried to find his pants. He was sore, painfully so, but he ignored it. The sooner he could get out of the room the sooner he could get rid of the lingering lust that still filled him. "You going to tell Dysali?"

"I suppose I should tell her where I've been." He watched the other rider dress, wondering how he could feel attraction towards a man. Again, it was a very different thing to experience something rather than just hear about it. D'ren noted the stiff way B'vin moved. "I ... I didn't hurt you, did I?" He'd meant the question to be about B'vin's injury, but his stomach twisted a little when he realized it could have another meaning.

B'vin shrugged it off, he didn't want to seem weak to the man. "It's just the way flights are, I deal."

"I didn't mean to hurt you," D'ren said quietly, feeling guilty. "Sorry."

The greenrider looked up, no one had ever acted like they cared about him _after_ the flight. While the two weren't friends, maybe there was a bit of camaraderie between them that could explain the concern. "It's not that bad. I've had alot worse. Some numbweed and fellis and I'll be fine."

D'ren swallowed heavily. "I didn't know it was like that." Soreness after a Flight seemed common, but B'vin made it sound like he was really in pain.

B'vin pulled on his shirt and turned away again. D'ren hadn't ever been in a male flight before, he probably hadn't thought much about the mechanics of it all. "In flights... there isn't time to get ready, no time to make it so that it _doesn't_ hurt." Shame flared up in him again, shame at not being normal.

"Oh ..." His stomach tightened again, both with thinking about what he'd done and with the idea of what B'vin had to go through. "I'm still sorry. For me it ... it felt good at the time." His face flushed.

"It felt good at the time for me too." He wished it didn't. If he didn't enjoy it, if it didn't feel so sharding good during the flights, then maybe Serenth wouldn't keep choosing brown... or bronze. Maybe she'd choose Aosorath and he could be with D'cal, and then it wouldn't be so bad. But he didn't deserve for it to not hurt, it was supposed to hurt because it wasn't natural, normal. It was supposed to show off how what he was doing was wrong and how much of a freak he was. She chose brown and bronze because that's what he deserved... he didn't deserve to be happy.
