I Get By with a Little Help from My Friends

Writers: AL, Cali
Date Posted: 1st March 2009

Characters: Zelle, M'net
Description: M'net asks a favour of Zelle.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 2, day 1 of Turn 5

"Hey Zelle, ya got a second?" M'net called after the greenrider as they were dismissed from drills.

"Hm?" Zelle paused almost mid step and turned around to face the caller. She grinned when she saw the young man trotting toward her. "Hey M'net, how are you?"

The bluerider shrugged, "Alive. I thought for sure N'vanik was going to strangle me before the end of the day."

"Yeah, I noticed you were having some trouble." Zelle crossed her arms over her chest as she regarded the young man. "You've got to be more careful. You almost ran right in to G'von.

"That's what I wanted to talk to you about." he replied, completely aware that he needed to correct his issues quickly before they affected the wing in a Fall. "I was hoping you might go up with me for some practice."

"Extra practise?" Well at least he was asking for help instead of filling himself with pride and not taking steps to correct his problems. "Sure. How about after dinner? That will give us at least a couple of hours before it starts to get dark."

He nodded, he knew she'd help him out. "Okay, I'll pop around for some place with bad weather, it's the uneven currents and sudden downdrafts that are giving me the problems I think."

"No need." Zelle turned and motioned toward the east. "See those cliffs way over there? The currents there are always shifting. It's a great place to practise." She let her hand drop. "There were lots of places like that at my original weyr because we were in a mountainous area, so I'm used to this sort of thing."

M'net looked over, the cliff wasn't very high up to be practising, but he hadn't been with the wing long, maybe they worked over there fairly often. "Okay, If you say so."

Zelle seemed to know exactly what the young man was thinking. "Looks can be deceiving." She stated with a soft laugh. "All right, meet me here and we'll go over together. Sound good?"

He grinned, "You know you're the best right? And I'm not just saying that because you're helping me."

"Yes, I know.." Zelle laughed, "But I also know that despite your protest, you are simply saying so because I'm helping you!"

He wasn't just saying it because she was helping him, but he wasn't about to admit that he'd asked her instead of one of the others because of his feelings for her. Instead he just shrugged helplessly and gave a goofy smile. "See you in a bit."

"Right." Zelle nodded, then turned and headed off. She wanted to grab some dinner and maybe check in with some friends. Maybe she could convince a certain bronzerider to go somewhere with her after she was done practising with the bluerider. Well, she could try anyway.
