Thank Faranth for rest days.

Ri'len knew that the life of a dragonrider wasn't necessarily an easy one, especially as a weyrling. Of course, despite the preparation for them during the candidate classes, he hadn't realized _how_ busy they were going to be! Half the time, the bronzerider felt like they didn't have much chance to breathe. Mingling with others outside of their weyrling class was kept to a minimum, not because of any order, but simply because there just wasn't time.

Except on rest days.

Ah, thank Faranth for rest days!

Of course, rest days were really the only time he and Sorsha got to have any time together, just the two of them. Even then, a lot of the time on their rest days was spent with others. Not that day, though. That day, Ri'len had specifically made an effort to procure a basket of food, a blanket, and stole Sorsha away for a meal by the sea.

It wasn't until he came to Dolphin Cove that he could understand the girl's appreciation and love for the great, watery wonder. It was a lovely element, though he knew from the past that it could also be a fierce one, especially when coupled with a storm. There was a storm expected that day. White clouds roamed cheerfully above them while their darker, more threatening cousins lingered in the horizon, waiting for their turn. Ri'len lounged upon the blanket with Sorsha, both of their lifemates sound asleep only a few feet away. They would enjoy one another's company there while the weather held.

"The picnic was lovely." Sorsha murmured and gave a soft smile to her once by law and always by heart husband. "It was a good idea to get away for awhile."

"It's nice to be able to spend time with you and just you." Ri'len mused contentedly as he tightened his arm that was draped around Sorsha's shoulders. "We don't get much of that these days."

"Well, just you, and Roseth, and Monilath." Sorsha countered, grinning up at him. "Of course, those two sleepyheads are dead to the world so it's just the same I suppose."

"Just the same, and Roseth is included in the 'you' now." Ri'len chuckled softly at the teasing admonishment. "She's as much a part of you as Monilath is a part of me."

Sorsha smiled, she'd been so afraid before the hatching that he wouldn't love her anymore, that he wouldn't have time for her anymore. It all seemed so silly now because here they were, together and alone. "I love you."

"I love you to." Ri'len reached up with his free hand and let it trail over her cheek. Shards, how he missed being with her. It was so hard not being able to touch her like he wanted, but he knew he couldn't, not until Monilath and Roseth were older.

She leaned into his hand, it felt so nice, just having that loving contact with him was so special to her. Sometimes she felt like it was wrong for him to touch her at all, but as she glanced over at the two sleeping dragonets, she was pleased to see that they didn't appear bothered by it. "I'm glad they like each other."

"How could they not?" Ri'len chuckled as he let his finger wander further over her face, tracing her eyebrows, trailing down her nose.

Sorsha chuckled as his light fingers tickled her. She turned her head to dodge them, then turned the other way as they followed her. Grinning, she finally just pushed away the hand all together and started trailing _her_ fingers along Ri'len's neck where she knew he was ticklish.

"Hey!" Ri'len laughed, then caught her hand in his. "Now now, play nice." He leaned forward, resting his forehead against her own. "Or I'll be forced to punish you."

She leaned up and kissed him. It was automatic, they'd done it a hundred times, and she'd never had to think about it before. Now however she pulled back quickly and gave a small gasp as reality hit her. Without a word, they both took a step apart and turned towards their dragonets. "They're still sleeping." Sorsha exclaimed with surprise.

Ri'len looked nervously from dragons to Sorsha, then back to dragons. Slowly, the tension that had jerked into his body at the kiss seeped out. "Yes, they are." He agreed. He glanced over at Sorsha, eyebrows raised. "So..."

"So..." she reasoned, "we didn't hurt them." She grinned. If they could steal quick kisses on occasion without it upsetting the dragons, well then maybe these few months wouldn't be so bad.

"Obviously not." Ri'len had thought that even a simple kiss such as they had just shared could cause the dragons to go into a frenzy, yet not a flick of a tail was met with the gesture. "Perhaps..."

Sorsha saw the excitement in Ri'len's eyes and grinned. "Perhaps we shouldn't push our luck." She took her husband's hand and laid back down on the blanket, pulling him down with her. "Let's watch the clouds for a bit until our sleepyheads wake up."

"All right." Ri'len would have liked to have kissed her again, but Sorsha was right. Still, he planned on experimenting again. After all, if simple little kisses like that didn't cause any harm, why couldn't they share one from time to time?
