Railen watched as Sorsha disappeared around the corner and out of sight. It was time for chores again. It didn't surprise him, really, how many chores had to be done. It was the same at his hold. Some of the chores were the same, some were not. Of course, some were completely different, and he was rather used to working with his animals. Still, everyone had to do their contribution.
The young man turned and fairly stumbled back in an effort to avoid crashing into a dragonrider. Not just any dragonrider, but the very dragonrider Sorsha had feelings for at one point. "Oh..hello I'lin."
"It's I'lan," corrected the bronzerider as he recognised the young man.
"Ah, yes, hello I'lan." Railen shifted and glanced back in the direction Sorsha had taken. Of course, she was not in sight, for which the candidate was grateful. "I hope the day finds you well."
"Oh it does, and I hope it also finds you well." There, that was polite at least.
"Ah, yes. Yes, thank you." Railen nodded slowly, then a second time. "Well...good day." He shifted as if to side step past the bronzerider.
"Just a moment," still polite, Ilan shifted into the path of the other lad.
"Yes?" What did the dragonrider want with him? Railen looked at him expectantly, hands stuffed into the pockets of his trousers.
"Sorsha," said I'lan quietly. "If you do anything to upset her..."
A threat? The bronzerider was threatening him? "I don't plan on upsetting her. I plan on making her happy." The words were hard as they came out, but they range with sincerity.
"You better, because if I find out otherwise."
"Is there somewhere you need to be, bronzerider, or are you planning on standing here and making threats all day?" The new candidate crossed his arms over his chest, leveling his gaze at I'lan. He was not usually so easily riled up, but I'lan irritated him.
"It isn't a threat, it's a promise. If you hurt her in any way, I'll be there."
"Are you done?" Railen's eyebrows arched upward. If I'lan thought he was going to intimidate, he was sorely mistaken. "Because as scintillating as this conversation is, I do have things I have to do."
"I'm sure you do, _candidate_."
Railen stepped to the side and walked past the bronzerider. If I'len thought he was going to goad Railen into doing something questionable, he had another thing coming. Jealousy was not a pretty sight and it was obvious that was what was motivating the bronzerider in the first place.
