Onnyth needed a bath. No matter what else was going on around the Weyr,
dragon care came first, so that was what led to Teseada dressing in old
clothes, and heading down to the side of the weyr lake.
**You go get yourself wet, then I'll scrub you,** Teseada took a step back
as the gold entered the water, bending to pull a bag of sweetsand from the
bundle she had brought down with her.
"Where's your puppet of the moment to wash your dragon for you?" Y'nub spat out as he sneered at the girl. He'd done his best to avoid her the last month, but he supposed they'd run into each other eventually.
"I beg your pardon?" Teseada gave Y'nub a glare as she got back to her feet.
"What? Have you tossed U'kaiah away already? He seemed happy to be at your beck and call at the Hatching." Y'nub had watched her parade her favorite bronzerider around. He had been furious. After all that time he had invested in Teseada; all those sweet conversations and romantic overtures he had had to ply on her just so his Larweth could finally fly a queen- wasted. Those should have been _his_ eggs on the sands that day.
"You've got the wrong end of the stick there. U'kaiah's just a friend."
He gave a snort, "I'm sure." Goldriders didn't have _friends_, they had
people that were useful to them.
"Not that it is is your business anyway."
Y'nub all but growled at the girl. "If you'd quit parading your business
around, no one would _care_ about any of it."
That remark earned the bronzerider another glare. "I do nothing of the
sort."
"Are you really that delusional or do you just like lying?" He couldn't
believe how self absorbed the goldrider was, nor could he believe how at one point he'd thought her a little less repulsive than all the others. "It's just like your big fight with your father and your secret brother."
"If it amuses you to brag about hearing that gossip..." She looked him in
the eye, "Gossip will get you nowhere, unless you want to be classed with
the old Aunties in the kitchens." The fact that she wasn't talking to her
father or really able to speak to her newly discovered brother was nothing
to do with anyone but them, but in a Weyr, well it would not have mattered
who she was, people had to find something to amuse themselves with.
"It's not gossip when you flaunt your mood swings, or ignore the new
weyrlings because you don't like that you have to share your daddy." He
replied, "Nobody _cares_ that you have a half brother, most people in the
Weyr do. But nobody can ignore it because you throw it out there where we
all trip over it all the time!." If he had his way he'd never hear a single thing about Teseada, but unfortunately she had been the talk of quite a few tables, especially after the Hatching.
"You bastard," she hissed. And with those words, her agitation spread to
Onnyth, who made her way back to the shore. The gold turned her own eyes on the bronzerider. "I did nothing of the sort. It's people like you who can't resist talking about others because they have no lives of their own."
}: Why are you upsetting Onnyth? :{ Larweth asked in a worried voice as he turned towards the group from where he was sunning. }: She does not like you being mean to her rider. You should be careful. :{
Y'nub knew better than to antagonize a queen and took a couple steps back.
"I guess if you can't hold your own then threatening someone with a dragon
is a good back up plan."
"She has a mind of her own," Teseada smiled, but it wasn't a pleasant one.
"I can't always predict what she'll do, maybe she thinks that you need a
little reminder of that."
He looked up at the large queen and then back at the spoiled brat that was
her rider. "And you think you could have controlled her at Shadow Cove? At least Karri was sensible enough to thank me for saving you two."
"She'd have never hurt anyone who didn't deserve it."
He just shook his head, she was too stubborn and prideful to ever see how
ridiculous she was. Those men at Shadow Cove would have _deserved_ it if
he hadn't stopped them, and if she thought that Onnyth wouldn't have
collapsed that whole tavern to get to her she was beyond naive. He gave a
mocking half bow to the gold and started over towards his bronze. He knew
when to walk away.
It was an act of will to resist calling after him. But Teseada knew that
Onnyth came first, and that the gold in front of her needed a bath. Maybe
he'd stay away this time.
