Description: Sorsha and Railen check in with the Headwoman.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 13, day 11 of Turn 4

Sorsha and Railen walked hand in hand through the corridors of the Weyr, Sorsha leading since things were a bit more familiar to her. They eventually found their way to the Headwoman's office, and with permission of one of the assistants, gave the woman's door a knock. It gave way on the first knock, having been ajar, and Sorsha gave the woman she remembered from her last time at the Weyr a warm smile. "Ylisahn, I don't know if you remember me from last turn..."

"Sorsha! Of course I remember you. And I know why you're here. G'len turned in his Searching reports and your name was among them." The headwoman had got to her feet and was waving the pair into the office. "Who's this with you?"

Railen gave a half bow at the waist toward the Headwoman, the gesture accompanied with a friendly smile. "I'm Railen, Sorsha's intended." He glanced over at the girl and his hand gently squeezed hers.

Sorsha leaned into Railen's arm and grinned, "He convinced me to come back to the Weyr and to Stand again."

Ylisahn couldn't help but be impressed by such selflessness but thought a talk with the young man at some stage before the Hatching wouldn't go amiss. "That's a wonderful thing," she said, bestowing a smile on both of them. "Now, Sorsha, you'll probably be back in the candidate's barracks - unless you and Railen would prefer accommodation together?"

The Headwoman rather thought they wouldn't, or their Holder parents wouldn't, but they were a fair age and it was their decision.

"Accommodation together would be preferable." Railen turned his smile upon Sorsha. He had said something to her prior to coming in the short time they had to prepare for I'lan picking them up and was glad she had agreed.

"Sorsha?" Ylisahn prompted, watching for any sign of reluctance on the young woman's part.

"Together, please." Sorsha replied. "We're going to get married when our families get here."

"All right. I'll find you a room, but it won't be very big, I'm afraid. Come over here by the desk and have a look at the locations." Ylisahn pulled the heavy hides plans of the Weyr down from the shelf and levered the bound hides open to the page for one of the upper levels. "You'll recognize this a little better, Sorsha, so why don't you choose. There's this ... this ... this ... and this. And some more on the next level up if you're feeling fit."

Sorsha eyed her options, but really it didn't matter to her. She was just elated that Railen and her were going to be allowed their own place. "How about this one," she pointed and looked up at Railen, "it's away from the stairs so it might be quieter."

"It's not too far from a bathing room," Ylisahn said, pointing to the large communal room further along the corridor. "But I don't think you'll find any of the rooms as noisy as the candidate's barracks, Sorsha. Because these are mostly natural caverns with the minimum of work done to them to make them suitable for habitation. Rock is a great sound-proofer."

"That looks fine to me." Railen agreed amiably. He was just happy to be with Sorsha, that was the most important thing to him. "I'll be fine with whatever you choose. Big or small."

Sorsha smiled, "This one then. Could we have a few furnishing? Our families are going to be bringing some of our things with them, but they might not make it here till the Hatching."

"And I don't think they'll be bringing furniture." Railen stated with a bit of amusement. Such things weren't easily moved.

"The basics will be in there," the Headwoman assured them, "but you just come back with a list of what else you'd like and I'll send somebody down to the storerooms with you. All we had that survived the floods are in there."

"We won't need much," Sorsha assured the Headwoman, she didn't want it to appear that they were mooching off the Weyr. "Railen's going to see about a job at the stables."

"Good. I was going to organize a talk with you, young man. Perhaps you could come back and see me when Sorsha goes to check out the storerooms?"

Railen started in surprise and glanced down at Sorsha. He hadn't gotten her into trouble somehow. He couldn't imagine that he had done anything to offend her or anything that went against the rules - had he? "Yes ma'am."

"Away you go then, and look over the room. Take some time to unpack but Sorsha you should report for Candidate classes tomorrow morning. I'll organize other work for you as well. I'll leave a note for you to tell you which roster to check."

The young man nodded, then stood and offered his hand to Sorsha. "Er...should I stay and chat first?"

Sorsha looked over towards Ylisahn, "Can he come back in about an hour? So we can check out our room first?" She didn't know what the headwoman wanted with Railen either.

"Yes, Railen can come back after you've both checked the room."

"Thank you Headwoman." Railen gave her another half bow then tightened his grip slightly upon Sorsha's hand. "Come on, let's get familiar with our new home."
