K'deren

K'deren

Figol was in a wandering mood again. He hadn't bothered to even _try_ to wake Jestyn this time, he'd just snuck out again. If working on a composition was this stressful he didn't know if he ever wanted to compose again. He couldn't remember the last time he'd had a decent night's sleep. But at least they'd auditioned and selected the players for the piece; and unfortunately Figol was one of them. He'd hoped that there would be enough good gitarists trying out to fill both gitar parts, but since it was for apprentices _only_ pickings were slim if he took himself out of contention.

For first gitar Husano was the only viable pick, he was better than Figol, but the other good gitarist hadn't auditioned since they had other duets and trios to work on. Giotini was originally selected for second gitar, but in the near sevenday he's had to work on the piece, Figol hadn't seen him touch it. That's what had Figol up tonight.

It wasn't late, not by K'deren's standards. But it was late enough that candidates should either have been on chore duty or in the barracks. Not wandering around in the Weyrbowl apparently aimlessly as the young man in front of him seemed to be. "Candidate?"

Figol didn't register the call the first time, but the second time he looked up to see who was getting in trouble. As he saw the dragonrider approach, he realized it was _him_. "I'm sorry sir, I think you've got me mistaken for someone else."

"You're not a candidate?"

"No." he almost added that he was a harper, but harper apprentices weren't supposed to be out this late either, so if he could just have this rider on his way the better for him.

"The who are you and what are you doing out at this time?"

He could lie, but the odds of getting caught were not in his favor, and it did a harper no credit to lose his integrity. "My name is Figol. I've got a project on my mind and can't sleep so I thought I'd walk for a bit to clear my head. I apologize if I've disturbed you."

"That's only part of it," K'deren sounded like he was talking to one of his own children, but that was probably a habit any parent would never get out of. He had the boy's name, but most people would have given a craft or some other way to identify themselves as well. "It is getting late," he suggested, "And your foster parents, or those in charge might be worried."

"Yes sir," Figol knew it was late, but up until now he'd never caught anyones notice, "I'll start heading back."

"Good, because if I do find you out late again, I'll be asking who to speak to about this."

Figol almost argued... but knew to hold his tongue. He knew that he was old enough to be in a fighting dragonwing by now, and that _they_ didn't have curfews. But he _wasn't_ in a wing, thankfully, and that meant that this dragonman looked at him as if he were a child. He was in the wrong anyways, it was well past lights out. "Good night sir." was all he said as he turned and headed towards an entrance to the Weyr.

"Good night."
