Description: Zelle visits J'darin in the infirmary, as usual, and he gives her some news.
Location: Dolphin Cove Weyr
Date: month 12, day 3 of Turn 4
Poor J'darin. Things had been so hard for him since the flight. Frankly, the greenrider wasn't sure how to help him. She didn't know how to make things better. So, she just did what she could think of - she was there for him. She visited every day during her free time, bringing him things. Sometimes what she brought him wasn't tangible - they were stories, stories of the sea, or perhaps something funny that she heard or saw that day. Sometimes what she did bring him were things that _were_ tangible, though they mostly consisted of food since his space was rather limited. What she always brought was herself and her ear for whenever J'darin decided he wanted to use it. The greenrider bounced into the infirmary, waving and smiling at the healers on duty and making a line straight for where J'darin had been sectioned off.
It was odd, really. J'darin was so self-reliant, normally. But he hadn't felt that at all since the day Nyith rose. But Zelle's visits injected life into his days, and he was grateful for that. When he had heard that N'vanik had ended his 15 turn old in the Wings policy, it had nearly cut him in two again. He wasn't sure how he felt about the man, but to come into a place you'd never been and didn't know the history of and making sweeping changes - especially with no leadership experience - seemed wrong-headed to him. He had certainly not asked J'darin's advice or help. Not that he would, he thought, but J'darin had all but begged T'moran for help when he'd become Weyrleader. It was worrisome.
He was unbandaged now, and would soon be getting out of the Infirmary. But to what? He didn't have anything to get out for, now. Even more now....
He looked up as Zelle joined him and couldn't find a smile, but he did wave to her.
"Hi there, Zelle."
"Hey." Zelle's smile was bright but it faded when she saw his expression. She immediately took up the chair that was always waiting there for her and dragged it to his side. "I thought I'd come and annoy you a bit before dinner."
"Maurgen came to see me today." his voice was quiet.
Zelle was about to say 'oh, that's good!' but something in the tone of his words and look on his face made her not utter a sound. She nodded slowly, silently encouraging him to continue.
"She is transferring out..." He turned to look at her. But there was still no smile. He was not surviving the new leadership very well. He almost felt like this wasn't his home any more.
His eyes went misty. "I don't know what I would do without you visiting me, Zelle... no one else does."
The greenrider leaned forward to clasp J'darin's hand tightly between her own. "Hey. It's okay." She stated softly, trying to make her voice soothing. "It will be okay."
"I suppose." A faint smile appeared briefly. "I just wish I didn't feel so useless." He sighed.
"You aren't useless." Zelle punched him lightly in the arm. "So don't you even start thinking about that. You keep me in line. That's definitely useful!"
"Zelle, keeping you in line will probably be the new Weyrleader's job you know... now I couldn't keep you in line even if I wanted to! I'm just a wingrider, like you, now." He frowned to himself.
"He came to see me, you know." But he didn't know what to add after that; he didn't know anything any more.
