J'darin

J'darin

"Now, J'darin," Ylisahn said to the former Weyrleader. "We had to make some decisions for you while you were held captive by the healers."

"I know Ylisahn. I was definitely a captive! Healers do not make exciting company either. I knew someone would have to move my stuff, but what other kinds of decisions did you have to make?"

"Just which weyr. Oh, and where to put things. We thought about leaving the unpacking for you so you would know where things were but wondered if you'd feel up to it right away." The Headwoman was used to packing and unpacking for people, and at least this time it wasn't after the death of a rider.

He nodded gratefully. "To be honest, I will be glad of something to _do_. I can't fly Thread for at least a sevenday. And I've been Weyrleader for just over 2 turns... all of sudden having no job is ..ahh.. daunting to say the least." He smiled at her in an almost boyish way. "Did you give me one of the high ones? Hasaarth and I loved the view from up there.. " He pointed, "..even during the Hurricane. Dolphin Cove is beautiful."

"We had some concerns for Hasaarth," Ylisahn said, her tone apologetic. "It's a ground level weyr for the moment, but you know that you're welcome to find your own from any of the empty ones and change whenever your bronze is up to it." There were always empty weyrs aplenty, especially the high ones the former Weyrleader apparently favoured. Even with the Harper Hall in residence there weren't enough dragons and riders to fill the natural and artificially hewn caves that peppered the caldera walls.

Sadness tempered his face for a moment, but he nodded. "I've been on the ground level since I transferred here, Ylisahn." He chuckled. "Had to be close to the weyrlings, and all.". He took in the rest and nodded, "While Hasaarth has been flying on his own for some time now, the Healers have not yet cleared us for normal duty. You're right as always, lovely Headwoman." He considered her second statement. "Ahh! But then I'll have to unpack and repack all over again. Is it really worth all that moving?"

"I'm sure you can find some help for that. Some greenrider or other," Ylisahn said with a knowing grin. "And yes, it's always worth moving to the right rooms. It can make all the difference to have somewhere you love to go back to after drills and 'Fall." The room she shared with her weyrmate was her sanctuary and she was always relieved to retreat into it at night.

He laughed at her knowing grin. "As it happens, I've already lined up some help for this round of unpacking. I'll have to be a lot more persuasive to get two rounds, but I suppose you're right. Thank you Ylisahn." He thought a ground-level weyr might make it feel not _so_ different. He just wish he knew if that was good or bad.

"Which one, then?" He looked at her ever present map.

"Here. It's a good spot with the view out past the seaward arm to the sea. Quite close to the harpers, though. I don't suppose they'll bother you much."

J'darin smiled, his eyes unfocused for a moment as Hasaarth weighed in. "Hasaarth says he thinks he will like the music. And no, I wouldn't mind... especially if Maurgen was still here. And its probably only temporary, and the view is worth it."

Ylisahn had thought that there should be some recompense for the man so abruptly removed from a job he had worked so hard at. "I'm sure it will. Would you like me to escort you down there? Or can you and Hasaarth find your own way?"

"No thank you, lovely Headwoman. I expect you have lots of other more needy charges than one newly demoted bronzerider. Hasaarth and I are quite familiar with most of the ground level weyrs since we spent turns there with the Weyrlings. You have done alot for me already, and I am very grateful." After all, he was just a bronzerider now and not necessarily deserving of such wonderful help. But Ylisahn cared for all of the riders at Dolphin Cove in this same, very generous way.

"Well, all right. But you come back if there's any problem with the weyr, and certainly when you start to think about moving up," she waved a hand in a absent gesture that could have indicated the upper levels of the Weyrs.

He smiled graciously at her. "You're very kind. I will come and see you the instant Hasaarth and I want to move." He winked at her and turned to go, wanting to check out the ground level weyr she'd indicated.
