Shards, some of them looked so young. "Good morning," N'vanik said. "I know you've all heard about the age limit going back to normal, but I wanted to talk to you personally. If you have any questions, please, feel free to ask them."
N'mor eyed the new Weyrleader, and actually recognized his face from Dragonsfall. When N'mor first heard he was not going to graduate directly to the fighting wing, he had actually felt relief.
C'den glanced at the other riders in the room, inwardly scoffing at those who looked relieved at the rule change. He may only be 15 Turns, but he and his bronze had been fighting Thread for several months now, and he wasn't about to be thrown back with the weyrlings to be babied until his next birthingday. No, he was meant to be in the skies, an essential member of his Wing.
"What exactly will we be doing if we aren't in the Wings?" T'lis asked softly. He had recently been placed in a Wing, but hadn't yet been given permission by the Wingleader to fight yet. And, frankly, he couldn't be happier. Thread terrified him, and all of his green's reassurances that they were ready did little to lessen that fear. He knew he needed some extra time.
"You'll be a Weyrlingstaff Assistant, just like the other riders too young for the Wings," N'vanik said.
"Transport duty?" N'mor asked. He liked the transport duty, it was fun to go to different places and meet different people.
"Of course," N'vanik answered. "You might make some of the older riders happy by taking their shifts."
Being a Weyrlingstaff Assistant and doing transport duty didn't sound so bad, T'lis thought. **What do you think?** he asked his green, although he already knew the response.
}:I'm ready to fight! We are ready.:{ she quickly told him.
He sighed. **Maybe you are.**
"But we don't have to leave our Wing, right?" C'den asked, just to be sure. That was all he cared about.
"No. Faranth knows I'd sharding hate it if I was put in a wing and then yanked out of it," N'vanik said. "But I want to make sure that no one gets pressured, or teased for going back to the Weyrlings' Wing." He looked around the room. "If I do hear about it, there will be consequences."
C'den nodded to show he was listening and understood. He had no malicious plans towards the others in the room. He would think less of them if they chose to stay with the weyrlings, but nothing more.
N'mor was suddenly grateful that his scoring had kept him from fighting wings. Now he wouldn't have to explain why he was in weyrling wing. He was pretty sure that those who already been to fighting wing and now returned to weyrling wing, would heard about it. And no Weyrleader's word was going to prevent that.
"Any other questions?" N'vanik asked.
"No, sir," N'mor replied with a shake of his head.
T'lis was too shy to ask any additional questions, so he just shook his head. Though he was glad he and his green would have more time to prepare and train, he still wasn't sure if any amount of time would make him really feel ready to join a Wing and fight Thread.
C'den shook his head as well, glad the meeting had been short.
"Then you're all dismissed. If you have any questions or concerns, you can talk to the weyrlingstaff, or me."
T'lis watched as C'den strode out of the room, wishing he had the same confidence as the bronzerider. The Weyrleader had just said they could talk to him, but the greenrider wasn't so sure. He sighed. At least he would be grateful for the extra time given to him, and the other young riders. He would appreciate every moment of it.
